Greets customer entering service shop and discusses with customer repairs needed on vehicle.? Enters the customer information into the computer system.? For basic repairs/maintenance, an estimate for cost of services and parts is provided at time of vehicle drop off.? If more detailed repairs are required, the service writer will schedule a mechanic to inspect the vehicle, then once the needed repairs are identified, the customer is contacted by telephone with a price quote for service and parts.? Uses internet to look up part costs and orders parts from vendors.? Prepares work order using the computer system; provides copy of work order estimate to customer.? Walks the work order out to the shop and places in the workstation; may discuss any issues or specifics with the Mechanic or Tire Technician.? Contacts customer if additional work is required or if new problems are encountered; obtains customer permission to go forward with repairs.? Acts as a liaison between customer and repair technician to address any issues or problems with service provided.? Calls customer when work is completed.? May sell smart parts, batteries, tires, or tire supplies.? Takes inventory of product and supplies.? Takes payment from customer.? May follow up with customer at later date to ensure the provided repairs were satisfactory.Job Qualifications and Skills: Must be at least 18 years old. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. The worker must have an understanding of automotive repair industry and automobile systems, such as engine, brakes, suspension, etc in order to communicate clearly with the customers and technicians. The worker must have the ability to keyboard data into a computer to update customer information and to prepare work orders and estimates. The worker must have ability to research using internet and operate Microsoft Word and Excel. Good customer service skill required. Previous experience working in a repair shop providing direct customer service is preferred.
