SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Term 4 Week 1 12th October, 2010

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school. I hope everyone had a great holiday and are ready for our final term for 2010.

As you read this the Year 5 & 6 students and a few parents will have spent the day at Parliament House in Canberra. The excursion will also involve visits to the War Memorial, Questacon and the A.I.S. The excursion will last for the week and it will be a great opportunity for all of the students to learn more about our country. The Junior room will be going on their day excursion this term and the Year 3 and 4 students have an excursion to Forster coming up in November.

Next Thursday Phillip, Kynan, Jessie and Kiana will be debating Werris Creek Public School. They will be trying to convince the audience that all children should not learn to play a musical instrument. This will be our very first debate. They are confident of performing well but also anxious about how it will go.

ORIENTATION

Our orientation days for 2011 Kindergarten students will be held from 9:30 – 1 pm on Wednesdays 20th October, 3rd November, 17th November and from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm on Wednesday 1st December, 2010.

If you know of any prospective 2011 Kindergarten students in the area that don’t attend the Currabubula Outreach Preschool, please let the school know as soon as possible so that they can be included in the program.

BOOK CLUB

Attached is a Book club pamphlet from Scholastic. Orders and money for this catalogue need to be returned to school by Tuesday 26th October.

The work on the Preschool has begun and should be finished soon.

Miss Munday has the Year 3 / 4 students this week while I am in Canberra.

Next week our gymnastics session will start. The cost is $5 per week and a permission note is attached. We are fortunate to have these sessions with very experienced instructors who have been at the school before and taught the students the basic movements, keeping them safe and showing them some great moves.

When Gymnastics finishes we will have swimming at Werris Creek Pool for sport. The cost for this will be advised later this term.

Please keep the 14th of December free. The final official assembly for the year will take place as our Presentation Night.

Have a great couple of weeks.

Regards,

Stephen de Roos

SCHOOL NEWS

GYM

Gym will be held each Friday for five weeks beginning Friday 22nd October. Cost is $5 per student per lesson or $25 per student for the five week period. Please complete the attached permission note and return to school as soon as possible.

GUITAR LESSONS

Mr. Garry Lee travels to the school each Monday to give guitar lessons. The cost for the term is $65.00. If you would like your child to participate in these lessons or would like further information please contact the school. The first lesson will be next Monday 18th October, 2010 and money needs to be in on that date to pay Mr. Lee for the lessons.

YEARS 3 AND 4 EXCURSION

As advised last term, Years 3 and 4 have been invited to join with schools Attunga, Moonbi, Somerton and Dungowan in an excursion to Forster from Monday 1st November to Wednesday 3rd November, 2010 (Week 4).

We will be staying at Foster Bunkhouses and some of the activities will be visiting a rainforest, a rock platform, Fisherman’s Co-op and an oyster farm and factory. The cost will be $100 per student. The total amount has been reduced to this figure by subsidizing each student from the excursion fund.

Please fill out the attached permission slip and return to school as soon as possible.

K-2 EXCURSION

As Stage 2 students will be going to Forster in Week 4 for their excursion, I have decided it would be preferable for the K-2 students to have a full day only excursion to Green Valley Farm. To maximise the amount of time spent there we would need to leave at 7am and return by possibly 6pm. At this stage I have not organised a date but it would be likely to be on Friday 26th November, 2010 Week 7.

If you have any concerns please contact me as soon as possible.
