Job Title: Director of Accounting Reports to: Executive Director of Business Services Dept./School: Business Services

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Pay Grade: 414 (226 Calendar) Date Revised: 7/2/18

Primary Purpose:

Supervise and perform general accounting work relating to the preparation, administration, and control of the district financial resources. Direct and manage the business operations of the district including accounting, payroll, purchasing, and tax collection.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: ? Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance-related field

Special Knowledge/Skills: ? Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB) ? Ability to analyze and interpret financial data ? Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems, develop data, and recommend improved procedures ? Knowledge of computerized accounting systems ? Ability to use personal computer and software to develop complex accounting reports, spreadsheets, and databases ? Ability to work with numbers in an accurate and rapid manner ? Ability to implement policy and procedures ? Ability to manage budget and personnel ? Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience: ? Five years accounting experience at a high level of responsibility

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Accounting:

1. Maintain the general ledger and prepare journal entries and budget transfers.

2. Prepare income balance sheets, statements, consolidated statements, and other statements and reports.

3. Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records using journals and ledgers or computer.

4. Prepare, enter, and record disbursement of district funds.

5. Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, proper codes, and budget availability.

6. Set up and maintain account controls, logs, and files.

7. Review and verify accuracy of journal entries, accounting methods, and procedures.

8. Debit, credit, and total accounts on computer spreadsheets and databases using specialized accounting software.

9. Work directly with external auditors during annual and/or unscheduled special-purpose audits.

10. Assist in the preparation of the budget and development of long- and short-range objectives for the business operations of the district.

11. Ensure that accounting systems comply with applicable laws and regulations including Texas Education Agency Financial Accounting Manual.

12. Oversee monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts. Review reconciliations of vendor and payroll clearing accounts.

Administration/Supervision:

13. Supervise Business Services staff and provide leadership in the provision and maintenance of timely, accurate and appropriate data.

14. Work with administrators, principals, directors, and staff regarding budget and accounting issues.

Records and Reports:

15. Record, store, and analyze information using accounting software.

16. Prepare timely audit schedules and financial statements according to federal, state, and GASB standards.

17. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records and financial statements.

Other:

18. Assign work to accounting staff and other employees engaged in accounting activities.

19. Maintain confidentiality.

20. Perform any and all duties as assigned.

21. Successfully advances district initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise all Business Services staff and financial records.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting, occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse, occasional reaching Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide and statewide travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
