 Assistant Program DirectorPosition Description Organization: Boys & Girls Club of Portage County (non-profit, youth service)Hours: Part-Time, Hourly (varies from 25-28 hours per week)Location: Boys & Girls Club SiteReports to: Center Director Position Summary: The Assistant Program Director assists the Center Director with overall program management, participant supervision, program planning and implementation. Provide coaching, support and direction to program staff. Adhere to behavior management policy while exercising authority in programs relating to Club members. Work with volunteers assigned to specific programs. Promote safety of Club members, quality of programs and appearance of the Club at all times. Ensure that programming is dynamic, exciting, safe, fun and support the organizational initiatives that support the mission of the Boys & Girls Club.Primary Duties for the Assistant Program Director:Performance is acceptable when Assistant Program Director is accomplishing the following to the satisfaction of the Center Director, Director of Operations and Executive Director. Site Leadership and ManagementAssist in the planning, management, and implementation of program activities, development of monthly program schedules and calendarsAllocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisalIdentify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staffEnsures productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteersDemonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety and development of Club membersProgram Development and Implementation of Youth Development Programs Plan and oversee the administration of designated Club programs, field trips and activities that support Youth Development OutcomesIncrease visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through fliers and social media, when appropriateEnsures that Club members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/ activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program areasEnsures that all programs and activities occur daily as scheduled An appropriate number of youth participate in each programAble to facilitate “On the Spot Fun” activities when neededAll programs are safe & meaningfulProvide guidance and role modeling to program staff and Club membersSupervise Club members in a program area by positioning yourself in program area to continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of Club membersDiscipline policies are enforced during each program Evaluate Youth Development ProgramsEnsures the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis and ensures programs/ activities respond to Club members needs and address their gender and cultural diversityParticipation numbers are tracked for each activity Assist in collecting outcome data when requestedAssist in grant reporting when necessaryFacility ManagementFollow and assist with the daily & weekly cleaning scheduleAssists in maintaining a clean, neat and properly equipped program areaEnsure that program staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well litAssures that Club equipment is maintained and in good working condition so it is safe and inviting for all Club membersAssists in keeping program supplies organized and maintained to limit wasted resourcesResponsible for daily set-up and clean- up of all materials used during the programProfessionalismArrive on time according to the staff schedule and prepared to workAppear dressed in a professional manner, wear club shirt and name badgeAlways carry themselves in and out of the Club as a role model while also providing guidance to Club membersSupport fellow staff in meeting program goals, objectives, and outcomesCultivates positive relationship with Club members, their parents and/or guardians, school personnel, supervisor, staff and volunteers by communicating effectively.Report any employee misconduct to the Director &/or Executive Director immediatelyAdditional Responsibilities:Able to be First Aid/CPR CertifiedMust be able to pass a reference and background check Able to sit in on meetings with parents/ guardiansMay participate in special programs and/or eventsAssist in or handle special assignments or other duties as deemed necessary or important by supervisorPhysical Requirements / Work Environment:Active environment that requires the employee to be on their feet for several hours at a timeSome lifting and moving of moderately sized objectsSome driving may be necessary Skills / Knowledge Required:Valid State Driver’s LicenseA high school diploma or a GED is required, some college experience and at least 2 years of experience in youth developmentAbility to communicate effectively with children from diverse backgrounds, as well as a range of other organizational personnel in a courteous and professional mannerAbility to motivate youth and manage behavior problemsAbility to deal with the general publicAbility implement quality programs for youthAbility to organize and supervise Club members in a safe environmentAbility to work independently as well as in groupsAble to meet deadlinesDisclaimer:The information presented indicates the general nature and level of work expected of employees in this classification.
