JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: DRIVER TRAINER

SUPERVISED BY: DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION

EMPLOYEE GROUP: 12 MONTH EMPLOYEE

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. EDUCATION: High School Diploma/GED and Certification as Driver Trainer

2. EXPERIENCE: Experience and knowledge in Training Drivers in the area of school transportation

3. SKILLS: Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously with frequent interruption. Ability to interact with staff and others in an open, friendly, business-like manner. Ability to follow regulations pertaining to the safe operation of buses and school equipment. Communication skills-telephone and radio dispatch, clerical skills, map skills, computer skills-word processing, spreadsheet, database, RDS experience, transportation routing software EDULOG. Class B/CDL License Endorsements (P,S)

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To plan, organize and direct a wide range of training activities for a wide range of employee’s in Transportation. Conduct and supervise training and develop programs for employees to improve & maintain safety standards, Improve employee’s skills, and build morale.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Train and evaluate all prospective drivers and monitors.

2. Maintain all DOT folders and records on current drivers.

3. Work with Transportation Director hiring new Employees.

4. Coordinate and evaluate with the Transportation Director district’s behind-the-wheel bus driver training program.

5. Conduct driving performance evaluations on drivers and delegated behind-the-wheel trainers and drivers and maintain driving performance records.

6. Post-accident behind-the-wheel re-training.

7. Maintain updated driver training manuals and material related to passenger transportation.

8. Network with local instructor groups to exchange information related to passenger transportation safety and training.

9. Design and implement safety meetings under direction of Transportation Director.

10. Assist with yearly state police bus inspection.

11. Routing, assign students, correct routes and assist parents with stops using EDULOG.

12. Assist dispatcher in maintaining radio communication with corporation vehicles, in the absence of the dispatcher, dispatch daily routes

13. Receive and direct incoming telephone calls.

14. Working knowledge of RDS system

15. In the absence of transportation secretary, assist with maintaining field trip assignments.

16. Maintain record system for corp. vehicles and vehicle records in a safe at administrative center.

17. Attend pertinent workshops and training sessions.

18. Drive routes/field trips as needed

19. Close transportation office at 5:00 p.m. every school day.

20. Assist with year-end bus check in.

21. Perform all other duties assigned by the Transportation Director.
