Job title: Disability Support Services Manager (DSSM)Post Number:SS5053Reports to: Student Services ManagerDepartment:Disability and Dyslexia Team (DDT) in Student ServicesLocation:Moulsecoomb Campus (but visits all campuses)Grade:7Purpose of the role: To lead the Disability and Dyslexia Team in providing quality support to our disabled student population of approximately 3,000 students across 5 campuses. This includes:Managing the team of Learning Support Coordinators, the team’s admin function and overseeing a pool of non-medical helper casual support staff and suppliers.Promoting disabled student success by ensuring students have fair and timely access to support for their course and by fostering better university understanding of the challenges that may be presented. Liaising with a range of stakeholders (both internal and external) to ensure the implementation of reasonable adjustments and in providing support for academic engagement.Line management responsibility for: Learning Support Coordinators (13 staff = 8.5 FTE) and the DDT Administration Manager (3 staff = 3 FTE).Main areas of responsibility:To be responsible for the staffing (including recruitment, line management, supervision and development) of all staff in the DDT, including the management of a pool of support workers and professional suppliers of disability assessment and non-medical helper support services.To coordinate, develop and directly manage the day-to-day service delivery activities of the DDT, contributing to wider Student Services and University activities as appropriate. To ensure that students are provided with good and timely access to support and to develop service strategies so that team resources are deployed appropriately. To manage the DDT staff development budget.To have responsibility for the Quality Assurance and Service Development of the service, including its non-medical helper services, to ensure that this meets institutional and external standards. This includes identifying, planning and actioning specific projects that improve the student experience of the service and of the university.To influence staff and the wider community’s understanding of disabled students, through liaison with internal departments and external organizations in representing individual students and wider student trends. To plan and deliver staff training and to share knowledge.To develop and communicate university policies and practices relating to the work of the DDT and to the Learning Support Plan process. To produce management reports, strategies and policies and to contribute to those of the wider university as required.To take on a caseload and more complex escalated cases, including complaints, coordinating assessment and assistance to disabled students.
