DISABILITY SAFE TRAINING CALENDAROctober - December 2015Through training and resources Disability Safe is committed to improving the quality of services in the disability sector by embedding a culture of safe work practise. In 2015 Disability Safe is running several courses aimed at reducing costs to service providers and increasing awareness of risk management methods across the disability sector. This half day course provides some basic information on injury causation and prevention as well as providing an overview of the workers compensation legislation and injury management principles. It gives practical advice regarding the role of frontline managers in the Return to Work process and the influence they can have on outcomes. Email disabilitysafe@.au.to register.WHS Committee TrainingRunning over 2 days and designed specifically for the disability sector this course fills the gap left by the lack of training requirements in the current WHS legislation for members of safety committees and gives an overview of the WHS legislative requirements including the risk management and consultation requirements and provides an opportunity to practice some of these principles in the workplace. It can also be conducted at a workplace and suits newly elected safety committee members or health and safety reps (if they do not request to attend the 5 day accredited course for HSRs). Email disabilitysafe@.au to register.RTW Coordinator TrainingThis 2 day training course is compulsory for nominated Return to Work Coordinators for Category 1 employers (those with a premium over $50,000 and greater than 20 employees or who are self-insured). It provides an overview of the role of all key parties in the injury management process and how the RTW Coordinator can achieve effective results. A WorkCover certificate of completion is provided at the completion of the 2 days. Primarily designed for supervisory staff with no formal leadership training, this course develops skills such as; efficient delegation, problem solving strategies, conflict resolution skills, engaging with staff and helps develop an understanding of psychosocial issues affecting staff working in the disability sector. This course covers the legal requirements relating to hazardous manual tasks and provides an understanding of safe manual handling principles and the opportunity to apply these principles to key manual handling tasks within the disability sector. Email susan.smith@.au to enquire.Manual Handling CoachingMH Coaches are typically supervisors or senior staff who have attended the one day training program.? The MH Coaching program is a 2 day course which aims to both assess the coach’s manual handling skills but also provide some basic coaching training and introduction to the use of a manual handling development form.? The coach’s role would be to provide trained workers with ongoing advice on manual handling techniques and safer work methods in relation to a range of handling tasks.? They would also facilitate the completion of the worker’s Manual Handling Development Plan(MHDP) which would allow for revision of MH skills, observation of the worker completing a range of pre-arranged tasks in the workplace and goal setting for continual improvement in these skills.?
