Cedar Ave, D-1, Flagstaff, AZ 86004(928) 773-9813sbenatar@Website mission is to improve lives by mobilizing communities to make lasting changes in community conditions. We do this by investing in three action areas: Education, Income and Health. We believe that everyone deserves opportunities for a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. ProgramsUnited Way of Northern Arizona focuses on the building blocks for a good life: EDUCATION: Helping children and youth achieve their potential, INCOME: Promoting financial stability and independence, and HEALTH: Improving people’s health. In accordance with this, we offer programs in each of these areas, including KinderCamp and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). KinderCamp helps children develop skills in areas of literacy, social-emotional and cognitive development while supporting the successful transition of the entire family into kindergarten. The VITA program helps qualifying individuals and families receive their Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). VITA also provides information to individuals and families for financial resources in our community. Volunteer NeedsUnited Way of Northern Arizona offers volunteer opportunities through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and Community Investments as well as seasonal volunteer opportunities such as Holiday of Lights and Mountain Campus Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair. For the VITA Program, volunteers are needed as tax preparers, screeners, and translators of Spanish and Navajo. Training is provided for all volunteer positions, with tax preparation training resulting in certification by the IRS to prepare taxes. Training is also provided for Community Investment volunteers as they focus on allocating community funds to organizations within the community. Special RequirementsNo previous experience is needed for our volunteer activities. Where training is required, United Way will provide volunteers with training along with any materials necessary. Volunteer commitment varies by opportunity. For example, the VITA Program asks for a minimum volunteer commitment of 4 (4 hour) shifts throughout the tax season. ................
