Think of how many paper plates and plastic cups your synagogue uses in a year, or even for just one event. Biocompostable and biodegradable tableware is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional disposable plates, bowls, utensils, and hot and cold drink cups. The Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs has arranged for major discounts on these items for all participating Conservative Movement institutions. Rather than using petroleum-based plastics, these items are made from the biomass of agricultural waste, such as sugar cane pulp, wheat straw, or corn starch resin. For instance, biocompostable utensils are made from the resin of GMO-free corn (corn that is not grown from a genetically-modified organism). The environmental benefits of these products can be maximized by disposing of them in a commercial or home composting facility, about which more information is available at or from your local parks or sanitation department.

Even if composting is not yet an option for your synagogue, using disposables made from agricultural, rather than petroleum, byproducts for a Kiddush or community Shabbat dinner is the better environmental choice. Biocompostable and biodegradable flatware is also a great way for Bnei mitzvah families to demonstrate their commitment to a sustainable Jewish community. How to Set Up an Account and Order Items:

STEP I:

Call Lisa Nessan, Account Manager at World Centric. She will record all of your synagogue's

information and will set up an account with you.

Please note: This MUST be done over the phone, and cannot be done via the website.

***In order to receive the discount on all orders, you must tell Lisa that you are affiliated

STEP II: Begin ordering biodegradable items.

Note #1: World Centric is currently working on updating their website, and within a few months, it

might be possible to order online. However, at this point in time, you MUST call Lisa Nessan in

order to receive the Conservative / Masorti discount when purchasing items.

Note #2: You must order a minimum of $25 worth of goods with each order, in order to receive the

Conservative Masorti discount.
