Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement

This four-session course, which has been taught nationally at universities and Fortune 500 companies, will help you to establish a written financial plan for your retirement. This plan can potentially help you to reduce taxes, establish a retirement income, and enhance investment returns. Topics include: stocks, bonds, mutual funds, asset allocation, social security, Medicare, long-term care, estate planning, pension plans, rollovers, IRAs, insurance, and more. The class includes a comprehensive workbook, which will be a valuable resource for the rest of your life. The instructors are founding members of the Long Island Association for the Financial Education (LIAFE) and the National Association of Financial Advisors (NFA).

A special Yuanji Energy Music is designed for each of the five Yuanji therapeutic dances. This kind of music harmonizes and energizes one’s mind, heart, body and energy system and uplifts one’s spirit. The graceful movement along with the peaceful music helps to strengthen the immune system. The movement balances the body’s organ systems (yin-yang.) The steps are easy and lively and are fun to do. This fun beginner’s course will give you everything you need to know to successfully use the Internet. It launches you from the realities of life into the virtual universe we call cyberspace. You will learn about Internet Explorer browser, the difference between various search engines, how to effectively use them, and how to download files. You will be shown various methods of saving sites; visit several virtual sites where you can visit a museum; view paintings; work a robot; attain maps; and more! This course will also arm you with the tools to analyze and validate sites you are accessing. This class is taught on the MAC. Maximum 15 people.

Boating

The following courses are presented in cooperation with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22-01. There is no senior citizen discount.

Boating Skills and Seamanship

This class is designated for those over the age of 18 who are either interested in brushing up on their existing skills, or who have not previously taken a boating course. The areas to be covered include: seamanship techniques, personal safety for crew and passengers, boat handling, rules of the road, the latest federal boating regulation and general legal requirements, weather, radio/telephone use, knot tying and other subjects. Most insurance companies recognize this course and will provide a 10% discount on boat insurance completion of the class.

New York State has enacted legislation that requires all operators of Personal Watercraft (PWC) to have completed a course such as our adult course by January 1, 2004, or else they will be in violation of the law. In addition, the law further states that all such persons who were born on or after January 1, 1978, must have completed the course by January 1, 2002. For those born after January 1, 1975, the course must be completed prior to January 1, 2003. For those born on or after January 1, 1972, the course must be completed on or before January 1, 2004. Thereafter, persons who have not completed the course will not be allowed to operate a PWC until they have successfully completed the course and have been issued a certificate.

NYS Young Boaters Course

This course is mandatory throughout the state for young persons, 18 years and under, who desire to operate any type of propelled boat in the waters of New York State. Upon completion of the course, students will be given a certificate of completion as well as a wallet-sized card, which must be in the young boater’s possession when operating a vessel.

This 6-hour course is open to all drivers, including high school students, 16 and older. Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible for a discount on your collision and liability insurance premiums for 3 years.
