Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Due to the rapidly changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, SUSD is planning a robust Distance Learning program until Stanislaus County schools are allowed to return to face-to-face instruction. We will continue to work closely with our County Public Health Department to ensure that this happens as quickly as conditions allow, but it is not known at this time when reopening will be permitted.

Our teachers and support staff have been working hard to ensure that they are ready for the beginning of the school year. We are excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with you and your child. Our goal at Dena Boer is to make sure every student feels supported emotionally and challenged academically so that they can have a successful educational experience.

We will start the school year with online instruction, and as such we will need every student to check out a school Chromebook. You will receive information regarding Chromebook distribution soon. If your family needs a “Hot Spot” to assist with wi-fi services, please contact the school office.

Your child’s teacher will contact you to introduce themselves and schedule a meeting (to be held in person or via Zoom) to share important information about what you can expect from the Distance Learning program. Meetings will be scheduled August 12-August 21, and we will send out information soon about signing up for a meeting through the Meet the Teacher website.

Students will be expected to participate in learning each day. Attendance and grading will be based on live participation and work completion. We will reach out to students who are not able to connect to provide the necessary supports to help students engage.

We are looking forward to working together to make this a great school year. We ask that you support your student’s learning by encouraging your student to do his/her best and ensuring that your student:

1. Has a designated area and the proper materials for online learning.

2. Has breakfast and dresses properly for online learning daily.

3. Logs-on to online school on-time and ready to learn daily.

4. Completes all assignments daily.

Thank you for your continued support and participation in your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Katie Cantu, Principal
