Name ________________________

Choose a fictional character that takes a journey in a children’s literature book, bed-time story, or fairy tail. For example, Little Red Riding Hood journeys through the woods to visit her Grandmother’s house. Then, rewrite the story and create a distance vs. time graph to describe the speed at which the character travels throughout the journey. Be sure to explain what is happening at each segment on your graph.

Let’s use the Little Red Riding Hood example:

Little Red Riding Hood is very excited about going to see her grandmother who lives 3,100 meters away. So she takes off running into the woods. She runs for 7 minutes straight, but then stops when she sees the Big Bad Wolf lurking near by. She hides for 4 minutes to make sure that he is gone, and then takes off running again. It took her 15.5 minutes to make the trip. Her average speed was 200 m/min.

[pic]Dstance vs. Time Graph

- Your axes must be labeled

- Units must be indicated in story and on axes

- Character must stop at least once

- You must give overall average speed

- You must give average speed over a smaller interval

- You must include time and distance for each interval

- You must include at least 5 intervals

- Create a velocity vs. time graph that represents the events in your story.

***Extra credit: After your story has been checked, illustrate either a scene from your story in detail, or make a comic strip for your story.
