Intramural 5-on-5 Basketball Roster

Important notes for captains regarding Fall 2019 semester

We here at BU Intramural Sports want to do everything in our power to make you a schedule that works well for your team. Please read the notes below, and provide us with any and all information we may need to help us make you the best possible schedule.

1. Though it should go without saying, please ask your teammates when they can play BEFORE submitting your roster. Look ahead and note any specific days/times that your team would prefer not to play on your roster.

2. Rosters are due by the date and time posted on our website. After the initial schedule is made, it will be posted on our site and communicated to teams via email. Teams will then have 24 hours to submit to us requests for changes. We will then take the following 24 hours to attempt to address as many of these requests as possible. Our ability to make changes to your schedule at that point is dependent on the availability of the team(s) you are playing, as well as the availability of facility space at that time. To ensure you get the best possible schedule for your team, please refer back to point #1.

3. PLAYOFF STATEMENT: The availability you submit on your roster will be used to assign your POOL PLAY games. Because we do not know at the beginning of the tournament which teams will be advancing to playoffs, the playoff bracket (week 2 of the tournament) is made ahead of time WITHOUT regard to the availability of any one team. This means that your team may very well end up landing in a spot in the bracket that includes nights on which you did not play on during pool play. It is the responsibility of each team captain to look ahead at the bracket, deduce when their playoff games might land, and plan accordingly as playoff games are not rescheduled by request unless they conflict with another Intramural Sport. Planning accordingly may include but is not limited to adding additional players to your team.

League Definitions:

1. Open: League made of teams comprised of individuals of any gender with no restrictions

2. Co-Rec: League made of teams comprised of individuals of both genders with restrictions. During games, teams must field an equal number of individuals of each gender (i.e. 3 men and 3 women in 6v6 soccer). In the case of a team with an off number (i.e. 5 on 5 basketball) the difference represented on the field must be no more than 1 more of either gender (i.e. 2 men and 3 women or vice versa). Non-binary students are encouraged to participate in the league(s) they find most suitable. Please reach out to IMsports@bu.edu if you have any questions.

3. Women’s : A league made of teams comprised of individuals identifying only as females

Division Definitions:

1. “AA”: Stands for “Above Average” Typically teams signing up for this division are looking for a higher level of skill/competition.

2. “A” Stands for “Average”. Typically teams signing up for this division are looking for a more recreational level of play as compared to “AA”.

Feel free to contact IMSports@bu.edu with any questions regarding these or any of our policies.

Thanks,

IM Sports Staff
