NEWSLETTER

Summer Registration

We appreciate all of you who have already registered your children in our summer programs. We still have a few openings. If you would like to register your child, there are forms available in the office. We look forward to hearing from you. The summer program is a great opportunity for the children to take part in the wonderful activities our staff has planned. It is also a great way to keep in touch with old friends and have the chance to make new ones. Thanks to all the families that are currently registered.

Swimming Lessons

If your child will be taking swimming lessons at Island Park at 10:40-11:10 a.m. and you would like to have an Academy staff member walk her or him to lessons, please bring in your child’s swimming card to confirm acceptance and to make sure we get your child into the right lesson. Session one has been canceled, but we are still waiting to hear about session two or three

Fargo Parks Swim Passes

Fargo Parks swim pass forms are available in the office. As of June 1, child care centers are not able to take children to open swim. We will adjust as the schedule allows us to go back to normal. All children who were three as of December 31, 2019, are eligible to go to the pool for open swim once it is confirmed that centers can attend. Be sure to complete the swimming permission slip before June 5. The children will go swimming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, weather permitting. Monday will be the alternate day if the weather is predicted to be bad later in the week. We ask that you please bring your child’s suit on Mondays. Towels and suits will go home on Thursday after swimming.

School Office Hours

Ms. DeLynda’s office hours will vary due to the many events of the summer. If you wish to schedule an appointment with her, please call in advance. You are welcome to contact her directly by calling 701-261-8087 or e-mailing AFCMONT@.

School Closed:

July 3rd

The Academy will be closed on July 3rd, please have a safe holiday.

BIKES

Please take note that it is best to lock your bikes up outside of the playground so children don’t climb on them during outside time. Please use the Academy sign in the parking lot or wherever you see fit.

Sunscreen

We are asking parents to please apply sunscreen to their children’s skin before they come to school each day. The Academy staff will reapply during the afternoon hours, but to save time in the morning, we would like the children to arrive at school with sunscreen applied. If you happen to forget to apply sunscreen, please let the staff know so they can be sure your child has sunscreen on before going outside.

We are asking all parents to please bring one bottle of non-spray sunscreen *labeled with your child’s name for end of spring and summer.  The Academy will apply sunscreen to your child 15 minutes before they are scheduled to go outside. However, we are asking parents to apply sunscreen before arriving to school.

*Should be SPF 30+ and provide broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.  Water resistant is best for children when playing outside or in water, while hypoallergenic/fragrance free is best for sensitive skin.

Hand Washing

We are asking all families to have their children wash their hands when they arrive, as well as before they leave the Academy daily. We are looking for ways to cut down on the number of germs entering our center, as well as trying to find ways to reduce the amount of germs our families are getting exposed to. Thank you for your assistance in this effort.

TOYS, TOYS, TOYS

Just a reminder that we do not allow toys from home to be used at school. Please leave all toys at home.

Classroom News

Preprimary I & II –

Ms. Maria & Ms. Maddie

This last month of school has been interesting! We are so proud of how well the kids have adapted to the situation- we are looking forward to brighter days ahead. The theme for this last month was, “The U.S.A” This was a great chance for us to explore and learn more about where we live. We really loved learning about different landmarks in the USA by matching small replica landmarks to their labels. These included: Statue of Liberty, Mt. Rushmore, Gateway Arch, and the White House. We also enjoyed “USA sparklers”- pretzel rods covered in white melting chocolate and red, white, and blue sprinkles.

The rest of the month was spent finishing up projects and making sure we accomplished everything we wanted to before the school year was over! We want to congratulate all the kids graduating this year- you guys have learned so much! It’s always a little bittersweet as the kids grow up and leave for kindergarten- we have so much love and respect for each one of you and are sad to see you go!

If you have been receiving packets of work for the past few months, we know that it is not easy. You have had to leave your friends, your teacher, and your routine for many weeks with no warning. The packets of work were not the same as work in the classroom, although we hope you had some fun! If you have readers to return to the Academy we would love to have them turned in to get them ready for next year.

We can’t wait to get our whole classrooms together again- we are planning some kind of reunion for later this year when we can all be together again! Thanks for the great, unforgettable year!

Toddler II – Ms. Brittany

The theme for this month was “Bring on Summer!” We spent a lot of time outside enjoying the nice weather. We went for plenty of walks, played a lot more in the sandbox, and planted some flowers!

We enjoyed making our moms their Mother’s Day gifts. We always get so excited to give gifts to the ones we love. We have also made flowers, a giant ART sign, and sandcastle drawings.

Our picnic on the playground was such a blast! The children loved bringing in a lunch box and showing it to everyone as we walked out to the playground for lunch. They thought it was so fun showing each other what they brought for lunch.

In circle time we have been busy learning the days of the week, what month it is, and what we celebrate in the month. We have been learning about the weather and the seasons through Pete the Cat books. We wrote to Pete the Cat and we are hoping that he will write us back!

We had three friends join our room and they have been a great addition to our class! It’s hard to believe that it is May already. I sure enjoyed my busy, yet fun, year with the 2019-2020 class. I am going to miss everyone, but I am also excited to watch you grow in the preprimary rooms.

Toddler I – Ms. Michell

In Toddler One we had the theme “Bring on Summer!” At circle time we talked about how the flowers, birds, and butterflies would be coming back. We’ve also talked about how when summer comes we will no longer need our boots, hats, mittens, and warm coats. Yay!

We have enjoyed our outside time with the warm weather. We are able to run around on the playground and not worry about ice. The best thing outside is the sandbox! We get a lot of sand in our shoes even though we dump them out! We have been working on using our signs and words. The signs we are working on are: please, all done, and more. We are getting these signs down more and more every day.

We will miss our daily music with Ms. Sue. We are lucky to get to spend a week with her in June and look forward to her returning to us in the fall. We have plenty of songs she’s given us to keep singing over the summer.

This time of year is both happy and sad. We get to say goodbye to some friends and welcome new friends. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this time. Enjoy summer and I cannot wait to start a new year this fall.

Infant – Ms. Connie

Our theme for this month was “Bring on Summer!” We are getting the room ready for summer by changing up the cubbies, clipboards, and decorations for a more summertime feel. Thank you Ms. DeLynda for the new hard wood floor.

Around the room we have some of our favorite summertime activities from camping to days at the beach and flying kites. We also have a board with pictures of all our friends! The infants love pointing to the pictures of their friends while we say their names.

We are excited for all our friends to be back and looking forward to a fun filled summer. In the midst of everything we welcomed new friends! They are adapting very well to their new surroundings.

We hope everyone is safe and are able to enjoy the nice weather that is here. We cannot wait to see you all soon!

Music– Ms. Sue

Our music classes for the school year have sadly come to an end. We have had fun in the last couple of months singing songs about the season of spring including songs related to the weather, Cinco de Mayo, fishing, and bugs. A favorite activity of the preprimary groups has been using an “old lady” puppet as we put the different animals into her mouth with “There Was an Old Ldy Who Swallowed a Fly!” We enjoyed singing songs about flies, bees, ladybugs, ants and even spiders!

Another favorite song was “Going on a Picnic” which is a fun call and response song full of lots of foods to take on our picnic. That led us to more songs about fruit, cookies, ice cream and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (which when you pretend to have them in your mouth makes it very hard to sing clearly!)

Both the toddler and preprimary groups also frequently request the song “The Old Grey Cats” which allows everyone to crawl around the room as cats while they “eat,” “wash,” “chase,” and “sleep” like cats! Closing our year with some of our favorite songs is always so fun!

I hope each of you have a safe and sunny summer filled with songs and laughter!

Sing! Sing a song!

Make it simple to last your whole life long.

Don’t worry if it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear,

Just sing, sing a song!

Children’s Clothing Box

Just a reminder to check your children’s clothing boxes to make sure they have an extra set of clothing that is weather appropriate. If your child has outgrown some of the clothing and you would like to donate the clothes to the Academy, it would be greatly appreciated.

Donating old swim suits

and trunks

It’s always nice to have extra swimming gear on hand for children who may have forgotten their suits. If you would like to donate gently used swim suits and/or swim trunks, it would be greatly appreciated!

Email Request

If you would like to have the newsletter and other information sheets emailed to you, please let Ms. DeLynda know or email the Academy at afcmont@.

Backpacks

We encourage all families to start bringing backpacks/reusable bags for their children. The backpack/reusable bag is more eco-friendly and reduces the amount of plastic bags we are sending home in the evening with the children’s works.

Healthy Snacks

We at the Academy would like to help children eat healthier and be aware of a variety of healthy snacks. If you will be bringing snacks to share at the Academy, we ask that they do not include candy or gum. Also, please keep in mind those students who have peanut allergies. At the request of numerous parents, we would like to follow our healthy snack rule.
