High end tube Headphone amplifier

This project started on request of a client , after viewing some websites

And going through some magazines ( glass audio , sound practises )

I realised it’s nothing more then a small SE mini amp .

The simple circuits often offer the best sound , and you get what you pay for .

All components are crucial , since there are so few of them , the only negative to this type of circuit is that its very sensitive to hum in the powersupply .

Basically you can use any tube in the amp section that falls more or less in the same specs

Suitable tubes are :

ECC81 , 6H30 , 6SN7 , 6BL7 , 6BX7 , 6DN7 , 12BH7 and many more ,

Even a 6V6 or 6F6 or EL84 can be used .

I propose however 2 versions to show you the general setup ,

Schematic is identical and powersupply also

Note the voltage can be varied by changing the first capacitor .

Without it the max voltage Ucc (40mA drawn ) will not exceed 175 volts

With it (say 47µF ) you can obtain about 300Vdc with (40mA)

Basically :

Super high quality no compromise Panasonic precision plastik film pot

50K log for volume control

Lundahl iron , an outputtransformer is necessary to drive the low impedance headphones

They can be from 32 to 600 ohm and more but not lower as 32 ohm

Tube rectified powersupply for smooth sound , lots of chokes for channel separation and filtering , big caps for ripple reduction .

Filaments run on DC , guarantying no hum from power supplies through filaments .

Version 1 :

V1 is 5842

Zo = LL1660/30mA

The secondaries are in series and used as primaries

The primaries are paralleled and used as secondaries

R1 = 100 ohms

Version 2 :

V1 is half of 6189W or 5814A oe ECC82

Zo = LL1630/10mA

The primaries in series

R1 = 330 ohms

All parts are supplied , but no real kit exists , we offer a nice housing but the holes need to be drilled , we will offer a pcb and a paper drawing to help drilling .
