Additional maneuvers have been revised in March 2014 and are highlighted by italicized, bold text.*** Grounds for Immediate Failure – Following Page ****** Grounds for Immediate Failure ***(in addition to your local policy)[GIF = “Grounds for Immediate Failure”]The student is involved in a crash, or instructor intervention is needed to avoid a crash. Use GIF Code “G1” The student deliberately ignores a command which is a required maneuver (Does not apply for misunderstandings). Use GIF Code “G2”The student drives or backs over a curb or sidewalk under circumstances that create a hazard for a pedestrian. Use GIF Code “G3”The student creates a serious traffic hazard by stalling or other improper action. Use GIF Code “G4”The student commits any of the following:Passes another vehicle which is stopped at a crosswalk yielding to a pedestrian or passes a school bus stopped with its red lights flashing. Use GIF Code “G5a”Makes, or starts to make, a turn from the wrong lane under traffic conditions that render such actions dangerous. Use GIF Code “G5b”Runs through, or has to be stopped from running a red light or stop sign. Use GIF Code “G5c”Personal Note (well, not so personal) -----------------------------After initiating these GIF codes I have regretted the attention paid to them. The idea of including them in the first place was just to give instructors an idea of what could happen to 1% of 1% of the teens who might have a terrible moment at the final assessment. This was truly to be a way to score that exception… the one student in a lifetime that locked up in a truly unsafe way on the final drive.I never anticipated in a million years that instructors would put so much weight on this set of scoring criteria… please don’t. Enjoy the final drive with your exceptional student… you have spent 6 hours driving with them in a vehicle and you know what kind of driver they are! This is not about it boiling down to the last 20 minutes of the course proving themselves. Let them show you what they know and give you a chance to see how our program really works!
