Lesson Plan: Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights: Breaking down gender stereotypesGoalsHelp students understand the broader concept of sexual and reproductive rights as human rights. Define the gender stereotypes of men and girls, and the impact on someone’s right to choose free from violence, and coercion – including the right to access abortion. Develop critical thinking skills so they can think as to how these rights apply to their own lives and empower them about their own sexual and reproductive health. Some activists and lawyers are fighting for sexual and reproductive health care rights for all because they think that is a way to grant better equality and freedom to all men and woman. To do that, we are going to think more specifically think about the effects of gender. So understanding sexual and reproductive rights is to understand one’s gender and sexuality. Between 15 and 24 is the time when you are usually questioning yourselves, growing to become the person you would like to be, you might be questioning the social and cultural norms that define your gender and the sexuality that might come natural; it’s the normal process of evolving and growing up.
