HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR CHILD?

Are you a top-notch observer? This quiz may surprise you or affirm what you already know. Living with a child means nurturing, scolding, talking and listening. It means doing things together and doing things apart. But no matter how much time parents and children spend together, there are always some crucial or illuminating things they don’t know about one another. Answer the following questions about your child and compare your answers.

After you complete the quiz, sit down with your child and see how well you did. Not only will this quiz give you an opportunity to grade yourself, but, it can serve as a tool to learn more about your family.

Students: In a couple of well-written (TYPED) paragraphs please report any insight gained about parent/child relationships from this activity.

Section 1: Explain any shocks/or affirmations about the quiz answers. Why do you think your parents know so much, or so little about these questions? What types of questions did your parents have more success with? Why do you think some questions were more difficult to answer accurately?

Section 2: Using the information you will receive in class about authoritative, permissive, and authoritarian parenting styles describe the style of parenting that is most pervasive in your household. Is the same style used with siblings of different ages or sexes? Do all parents (guardians, step parents, etc. use the same parenting techniques?) What type of parenting style would YOU use if you had children? Why?

Attach this sheet and any additional parent answer sheets to your typed reflection paper. To make this more interesting, you may want to give this quiz to more than 1 parent and compare the results. (Don’t let your parents take this quiz together!) ϑ Have fun!
