APPENDIX 4 TO ANNEX F TO CFC OPLAN (KOREA) 9518X-XX

DOD NATIONAL MEDIA POOL

REFERENCE: DOD Regulation 5200.1-R, "Information Security Program Regulation." June 1986.

1. General. The DOD National Media Pool is structured to provide media coverage of military activities until open media coverage is possible.

2. Required Theater Support

a. During operations, CFC PAO or JIB Director, in coordination with the OSC, will schedule a minimum of one comprehensive, unclassified daily briefing on the operation for media representatives.

b. Media representatives in areas of ongoing combat operations will be registered with the US military and required to abide by a clear set of military security ground rules that protect US forces and their operations.

c. Journalists will be provided access to all major military units and have access to key command and staff personnel. Journalists will not be provided access to classified areas or classified material.

d. All CFC commands, involved in this operation, will assign a designated officer to coordinate media pool requirements.

e. All CFC commands will conduct itinerary planning to enable media pools to disperse throughout the JOA in order to provide coverage of operations and to regroup periodically to share and file stories.
