Booting to Interact before Windows 95/98 on a PowerStation

1) Reboot the P4 by turning off the power to the unit from the switch in the back. Turn the power back on and hold down the “F8” key on the keyboard. There will be a screen that will pop up where you will have several options. By choosing “Safe Mode” you can go into Win95/98 and make the necessary changes you need to make.

2) In Win95/98 choose the “Start” button and go to “Programs”. From there you need to select “Explorer”. When “Explorer” is open highlight “C:”, to the right you will need to look for the file “Msdos.sys”. Select this file, you will be prompted to choose a program to open it up with. Select “Notepad”.

3) The “Msdos.sys” file should be open in front of you now. Look for the line “BootGUI=1”. You will need to change the “1” to a “0”. Once you have done this save and exit the program. You will need to shut down Win95/98 now.

4) Take the disk labeled “Power Station Shell Disk” and install it into the unit. There is a README file to give you instruction on how to install this disk. Do not, when prompted, install the AUTOEXEC.BAT or the CONFIG.SYS from this disk.

5) Go to the DOS prompt. At the DOS prompt you will need to type in “edit autoexec.bat”. The DOS Editor screen will appear with the autoexec.bat showing.

F) Hold down the “Alt” key and press the “F” key. From the menu select “Open”.

G) Next, you will need to select “AUTOEXEC.CTC”.

H) When the “AUTOEXEC.CTC” is open, highlight the entire file by holding down the “Shift” key and moving the cursor to the bottom of the page. Next, use the “Ctrl” + “C” key stroke to copy the highlighted field.

I) Holding down the “Alt” key and pressing the “V” key will bring up another menu. Form this menu select “AUTOEXEC.BAT”, this file will overlap the previous file.

J) From the fourth line in the Autoexec.bat, hold down the “Ctrl” and hit the “V” key. This action just pasted all the highlighted information from the “Autoexec.ctc” into the “Autoexec.bat”.

K) Hold down the “Alt” key and press the “F” key, this will bring up the File menu and select SAVE

L) Hold down the “Alt” key and press the “F” key again, select EXIT.

6) Reboot the unit. The PowerStation should now boot into the PowerStation Shell. Go to Configure Hardware and set it to run Interact on startup. Within Interact you can choose the Application that you will want to run on startup.
