Dow Designates LaPorte and Deer Park Sites as Houston Operations

Dow’s LaPorte, TX and Hampshire Chemical Corp’s Deer Park, TX production sites have been designated as Houston Operations to better represent the integrated management of the sites. Hampshire Chemical Corp. is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company.

Beginning in 1998, one year after Dow’s acquisition of Hampshire Chemical Corp., the site operations of LaPorte and Deer Park began a consolidation to leverage resources between the two neighboring sites, both located on Battleground Road in the southeast Houston area. Since that time, all core operating functions of LaPorte and Deer Park have been fully integrated.

Comments Wayne Turner, site leader of Houston Operations, “The new designation reflects the cooperation and teamwork that exists between the Deer Park and LaPorte sites. We view ourselves as one Operations team, with production occurring to support both Dow and Hampshire Chemical businesses. The designation is also a more accurate reference to describe Dow’s presence in the Ship Channel area. Our local communities and industrial partners interact with Dow personnel on an increasing basis when dealing

with issues that impact both sites, and this change simplifies the relationship between the sites.”

Houston Operations will be used internally and externally to reference the consolidated facility, the assets of which remain unchanged. LaPorte remains an asset of The Dow Chemical Company, with operations supporting the following:

• Custom and Fine Chemicals – production of a variety of specialty chemicals

• Engineering Plastics – production of plastic resins for automotive and personal care products

• Fabricated Products – production of rigid foams for a variety of industrial and commercial applications,

• Polyurethanes – production of Isocyanate products for rigid foams, adhesives, sealants, coatings, elastomers, agrifibers and more for use in many automotive and appliance applications.

Deer Park, part of Dow’s Hampshire Chemical Corp. subsidiary, manufactures two groups of products:

• DAXAD * sulfonated naphthalene dispersants - added to improve the performance of concrete, bricks, and gypsum board,

• Glycine - an amino acid used as a flavoring agent in foods and pharmaceuticals, and also an ingredient in many personal care products.

Turner continues, “Despite the new name, our commitment to the local community remains unchanged. We continue to be dedicated to our local community organizations, community advisory councils, and to local emergency response committees. More important, we continue our commitment to the vision of zero - zero impact to the health and safety of our community and to the environment.”

* Trademark of The Dow Chemical Company or its subsidiaries.
