Agricultural education teaches students to apply core content knowledge beyond the walls of the classroom. Agriculture teachers play a key role in teaching life skills that students need in order to be college and career ready. With nearly 12,000 agriculture teachers in the United States, it is important that agricultural education and agriculture teachers are celebrated for the profound impact they have on their students, schools, and communities. Nearly all agriculture classes incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) principles in their curriculum and give students hands-on experiences practicing those principles. This leads to students who are prepared for high-demand careers in the agriculture industry by developing skills in biotechnology, renewable energies, engineering, food production, and more. Agriculture teachers also develop students into leaders who are prepared to take on new challenges in the age of global agriculture.

National Teach Ag Day is designed to encourage others to teach school-based agriculture and recognize the important role that agriculture teachers play in our schools and communities. National Teach Ag Day is a day set aside to celebrate the positive contributions agriculture teachers make each day in their classrooms and communities, while encouraging others to pursue a career in agricultural education. Currently, there is a national shortage of agriculture teachers in the United States, and National Teach Ag Day is part of a campaign to raise awareness of the career.

National Teach Ag Day is a part of the National Teach Ag Campaign, an initiative of the National Council for Agricultural Education, led by the National Association of Agricultural Educators and sponsored by the CHS Foundation, Corteva Agriscience™ Agriculture Division of DowDuPont™, BASF, Herman & Bobbie Wilson, and Growth Energy, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
