Boniche O.Since the creation of the computer, the world has undergone several technological advances, including creation of internet, cell phones, tablets, and some other devices that have made distances shorter in terms of communication than it was in the past, when you can only communicate through letters or phones (public or home). Today, these ultra-modern technological devices make possible to learn different things, including languages since through internet you can get courses or download dictionaries, programs or Apps to study and learn any language. That is why English teachers should update their knowledge, take advantage of these resources and use them to teach the students in a very innovative way. “A mobile device is basically any handheld computer. It is designed to be extremely portable… Some mobile devices are more powerful, and they allow you to do many of the same things you can do with a desktop or laptop computer. These include tablet computer, e-readers and smartphones.” (puterbasics/9) Nowadays, most of our students have one of these devices, and they take either their smartphones or tablets with them to school despite the fact that some schools prohibit their use inside the classrooms. But if the English teachers are updated and know how to take advantage of these devices to teach the language, there could be an agreement between the school administration and the English teachers, so the students use the mobile devices properly. One of the many things that an English teacher can use in the classroom with the mobile devices is the dictionary downloaded through a free App. The dictionary can be English-English or English-Spanish, and it can be used to do vocabulary assignments in the classroom. Another thing is the different sites that are found in the internet, specially developed to learn English and make the classes more interesting and engaging for the students. In addition, educational and interactive videos are also tools a teacher can use in class to present any topic, and the students can listen to other English speakers. At the end, the benefit is for the students as it is for the teachers. Why? Because while they are learning a language, the students can use a device in a way other than for chatting or listening to music. On the teachers’ side, although his/her planning could take more time and steps, his/her classes would definitely be more active and less traditional. The students would participate actively, and their learning would be significant. ................
