Guide for using Overdrive – Burning a CD

What is Overdrive? Overdrive is a software download for PC’s only that allows you to download Audio Books, for free, from public libraries in school or at home

Go to the library website

Go to left side of page to “Subject Links” and CLICK

Find the word “Libraries” and click

Click on MCLINC Libraries (Montgomery County, if your library is in this county)

** Click on Power Libraries for other locations for your Public Library.

On the top, right side you will see a picture of an IPod – CLICK on that

On the top, right side Click “Login to My Account”

Select Library – ex. Huntingdon Valley Library

Library Card Number – enter your personal library card number from your Library Card

Go to the left side and find the “Search catalog” box

Enter the book title you are searching for

This guide is a ”how to” burn a book to a CD although there are other mediums you can download (ex MP3 player, IPod, WMA)

**If given the choice between Overdrive WMA Audio Books or MP3 Audio Books, choose Overdrive WMA because they are about ½ the file size of MP3 Audio Books and have better sound quality

If the book title can be burned, the “Burn to CD” icon will be blue

Once you have found your book and know it is possible to “burn”, click “Add to Cart” (continue browsing OR proceed to checkout.

**Like a Library, not all books will be available immediately. You can request the book and when it is available the library will notify you via emai.. You will have a limited time to download the book once you are notified.

Click “Proceed to Checkout”

Click “Confirm Checkout”

Under the picture of the book the word “Download” appears. Click on that.

A new screen titled “Get Media” appears

Create a folder you want to download to. Do not use the default. Make a New Folder on the Desktop – rename it “overdrive folder”.

Click OK at the bottom

A new screen titled “Download” appears

Choose All Parts.

Click “OK”

A new screen titled “Overdrive Media Console” appears

Go along the top and Click on “Burn”

A new screen titled “Overdrive Media Console Burn Wizard” appears

The Welcome screen appears which guides you thru steps to Burn CD

Click on “Next”

Confirm box appears

Select parts to be downloaded. On this screen you will see how many CD’s will be needed to complete the burn process. **This is where you can deselect some parts and copy only the parts you have enough CD’s to copy. You can go back later into the software you downloaded “Overdrive Media Console” for a limited time based on the library checkout date, and complete other parts you did not previously copy.

Click “Next”

A new screen titled “overdrive Media Console Burn Wizard – Progress Box appears.

When the CD is burned it will eject.

Click “Finish”

To Finish Downloading “ Parts”

**If you were unable to download all “Parts,” you can return to the Overdrive Media Console on your computer and continue downloading at another time.

Select the book (Remember you can only download as long as the book has not expired).

Go along the top and Click on “Burn”.

A new screen titled “Overdrive Media Console Burn Wizard” appears

Click on “Next”

Download Software from Home

If you want to use Overdrive from home, you will need to download & install FREE software.

Click on MCLINC Libraries (Montgomery County, if your library is in this county)

** Click on Power Libraries for other locations for your Public Library.

On the top, right side you will see a picture of an IPod – CLICK on that

Go to the “Getting Started” section found on the left side of the page.

Click on “Quick Start Guide” and follow the steps to download and install free software
