WWI Battle: Research & Video Production

Purpose:

← Work together as a team

← Research and become an expert on 1 WWI battle

← Learn how to and improve filming skills on a phone

← Find and download a video editing app on to a phone

← Learn how to and gain experience in editing a video using a phone

Task:

← Research 1 WWI battle, i.e., Battle of the Marne, Battle of Verdun, Battle of the Somme, Battle of St. Mihiel, Battle at Tannenberg, Battle at Gallipoli

← Find and save pictures of the battle (from the internet) on to your phone

← Film your group talking about the battle

← Download a video editing app on to the phone

← Use the editing app to create a video of the battle

Battle Research Requirements (try to answer as many questions as you can, divide up the questions among your group members and research simultaneously):

← Who fought in the battle? Which side/countries fought in the battle?

← How many soldiers (from each side) fought in the battle?

← When did the battle take place? When did it start? When did it finish?

← Where did the battle take place?

← What type of fighting took place during the battle? i.e., trench warfare?

← What kinds of weapons were used in the battle?

← What were the results of the battle? Who won? What did they gain?

← What were the casualties of the battle? How many died (from each side)? How many were injured (from each side)?

← What were the significances or effects of the battle?

Video Requirements:

← 1 – 2 minutes in length

← Student voice-overs should be heard, providing the research of the battle

← At least 3-4 pictures (from the internet) of the battle

← Appropriate background music (at times) during video, maybe sound effects

← Text info, i.e., battle title, battle research (data, facts), quotes from soldiers

← Filming/video of group members talking about the battle (maybe reenacting the battle?)

Video Story Suggestions:

← News cast coverage of the battle

← Interviews with soldiers, officers, civilians who participated in the battle

← Reenact the battle

← Have lots of pictures with captions and your voice-overs describing the details and facts of the battle

Time to Complete this Project (2 class periods) (work together as a team and have multiple people working on each section at the same time):

← 30 mins to research the battle (use your digital devices/internet to do this, take notes on paper)

← 15 minutes to find appropriate pictures of the battle, music for your video, and/or sound effects for the video. Save this info on to a phone

← 15 minutes to find and download a video editing app on to a phone

← 30 mins to film your group members for your video

← 60 mins to edit your video

When finished, upload your video to Youtube. Submit your youtube video link to Jupiter grades
