Help - Installing Tableau Reader8th October 2018Reason for this documentThe Business Information Portal (BIP) is a series of Dashboards, contained in Tableau Workbooks, presenting important business information to various users across Aston University.4059097104110To view and interact with these Workbooks and Dashboards, users will need to install a new piece of software on their desktop computer or laptop. This new software is called Tableau Reader. This document contains the instructions needed to install Tableau Reader.Once Tableau Reader is installed you will then be able to view, and interact with, Tableau Workbooks and Dashboards that are published as part of the Business Information Portal project.Notes about installing Tableau ReaderThe following instructions are for installing to a Windows Desktop PC or Laptop. Please email bip_support@aston.ac.uk if you need to install Tableau Reader to an Apple computer.Tableau Reader cannot be installed on tablets or mobile devices. However, it may be possible to Remote Desktop to your Windows Desktop PC or Laptop from your mobile/tablet device, which will still allow for interactivity with the Dashboards. Additionally it is possible to print Dashboards from Tableau Reader – this could be to a PDF document that you could then view on your mobile/tablet device if needed.The installation process should take no more than 5 minutes.Your computer?must?be connected to the University wired network to install Tableau Reader.If you experience issues please email: bip_support@aston.ac.uk.Installation instructionsBefore installing any software please save all your work and close any open applications.Windows 7/8 and some Windows 10 Windows 10 users please try these installation instructions first. If ‘Get programs’ is not available then please continue onto specific Windows 10 installation instructions later in this document.When you are ready to install the software simply follow the instructions below.Open the Start MenuClick on Control PanelClick on ‘Get programs’ which is?located in the Programs sectionClick on Tableau Reader and then click on InstallIf you are prompted, ensure that the 'Run program automatically when download completes' box is checked and then click the Download buttonTableau Reader will be downloaded and will install automaticallyWindows 10 – for computers with Software Center installedWhen you are ready to install the software simply follow the instructions below.Right click on the new software icon and select 'Open Software Center'A list of all available software will be displayedFind and click on Tableau Reader icon and then click InstallTableau Reader will download and install automaticallyAfter installationTo view and interact with data in Tableau Reader you will need a Tableau Workbook that contains Dashboards.Tableau Workbooks and Dashboards will be made available to download from the Aston Intranet. The first of these is the Annual Programme Evaluation workbook which contains dashboards presenting data to help with the Taught Programme Evaluation process. These dashboards will, in time, replace the spreadsheets that the Planning team have produced for Annual Monitoring in previous years. To download the Annual Programme Evaluation Tableau Workbook please click on the link displayed as the text ‘here to access the data’ which can be found in the ‘Tableau Dashboard’ subsection of the ‘Data To Support Evaluation And Review’ section of this web page: Please note that the Annual Programme Evaluation Tableau Workbook will be updated on a regular basis, so the version that you download will likely expire some point in the future. If this is the case then please download the latest version of the Annual Programme Evaluation Tableau Workbook which can be found by following the same web page as mentioned in the previous point.This is to make sure that all users of this workbook are using the most up to date version that will contain fixed issues, enhancements and feature requests where possible.If the following pop-up window appears when starting Tableau Reader then please choose the ‘Don’t remind me again’ option. Tableau Workbooks and Dashboards will continue to work in the version of Tableau Reader you have installed. Aston’s IT Services will add the latest version of Tableau Reader to the ‘Get programs’ or ‘Software Center’ pages at an appropriate time in the future. Users will be advised when a new version of Tableau Reader is available to install. ................
