Reading Tools XE "Tools" for Computers XE "Computers" and MoreGINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Good morning and welcome to the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" Reading Tool XE "Tool" Partner Program XE "Tool Partner Program" . Today's webinar is regarding Reading Tools XE "Tools" for Computers XE "Computers" and More. And our first presenter will show us to why there's a, And More, in that title. So, let's get started. My name is Ginny XE "Ginny" Grant XE "Ginny Grant" , I'm Senior Product Manager XE "Senior Product Manager" for Bookshare and a couple of other reading tools. Um, we'll be having, uh, Capti XE "Capti" Narrator XE "Capti Narrator" represented, Open LORE Read, Bookshare Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" , Snap XE "Snap" &Read Universal XE "Universal" , and BeeLine Reader. So, without further ado, let's go into our agenda. So, one of the things, we had, uh, a little celebration yesterday from the first anniversary of the new website of Bookshare XE "Bookshare" . And over the course of this last year, we've continued to enhance it. Um, the Help XE "Help" Center XE "Help Center:See Also:Center" XE "Help Center" keeps getting refined based on questions and comments. Um, the--one of the other things that we've done especially for this back-to-school period is that we've set up some new reading tools summary pages that summarize our, uh, the different ways for people look at--it's really very audience-based.So, are you on a computer? Are you on a mobile tool? Are you on AT device? Or what, uh, particular, uh, needs to have? Are you blind or visually impaired, have a physical disability or learning disability? So, you'll see from examples if you go to the Help XE "Help" Center XE "Help Center:See Also:Center" XE "Help Center" to the Using Bookshare XE "Bookshare" area, the little blue box at the bottom of the lower left of the Help Center XE "Center:See Also:Help Center" XE "Center" page that has links to those, those pages. They will take you to a page similar to the screenshot that I'm sharing right now which is called Reading Tools XE "Tools" for Computers XE "Computers" . And there it's broken up by different platforms, Windows XE "Windows" , Chromebooks XE "Chromebooks" , Macintosh XE "Macintosh" , and on there, there's a list of different reading tools which are tightly integrated with Bookshare XE "Bookshare" such as the Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" , Capti XE "Capti" , Open LORE, Kurzweil XE "Kurzweil" , and then, and then others. There are (stammers) these are not rigid or ranked in any way except their sorting, sorting order is actually by price.Um, and we hope that you'll find this as a useful tool to be able to, to evaluate what's the best reading tool for your needs. From that page, you can also drill into New XE "New" Reading Tools XE "Tools" Product Pages XE "Tools Product Pages" which are still evolving but they have high level details, benefits of each of these products, the major benefits to the different Bookshare XE "Bookshare" member audiences, uh, quick links to the Get-started videos or new features, and pricing and links and ways to be able to purchase or learn more from the producer of that reading tool.An example of that, uh, Reading Tool XE "Tool" page is, uh, um, is Capti XE "Capti" , Capti Narrator XE "Capti Narrator" that I have up. Um, we have (stammers) others from Read2Go and other tools that, that were shown on (stammers) on Tuesday XE "Tuesday" . Oh, Tuesday's a week ago. Um, and, uh, and yes, Nick XE "Nick" , if you could reach the--in this cam. So, we're actually going to be showing our, um, Open LORE, uh, first, uh, cause for the change but we're having a problem with the presenter.Um, and Lena XE "Lena" is also finding the PCO code is not valid. Um, so I'm going to, uh, take a moment and have our, uh, expert, uh, Ready Talk, uh, people in my room here to see if they can help, help reach out to those co-presenters. Uh, so, Steve XE "Steve" and Glen XE "Glen" , we're going to be starting with you. Thank you for being flexible. Um, so we're going to jump over to our, um, this is probably one of our newest tools that's coming to, um, by this year.Um, and so Steve XE "Steve" Wagner XE "Steve Wagner" , (stammers) I'm sorry, Glen XE "Glen" Wagner XE "Glen Wagner" and Steve Bauer XE "Steve Bauer" from Open LORE will be presenting to us first. So, if you are ready, if you could please share your application.STEVE BAUER XE "STEVE BAUERXXYYAA:Speaking" Yes, I am. Oh...GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Take it away.STEVE BAUER XE "STEVE BAUERXXYYAA:Speaking" Okay. Can you see it?GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Got it.STEVE BAUER XE "STEVE BAUERXXYYAA:Speaking" Is that good?GLEN WAGNER XE "GLEN WAGNERXXYYAA:Speaking" It's good.STEVE BAUER XE "STEVE BAUERXXYYAA:Speaking" I hope everybody can hear me well. Okay. And thanks everyone for joining us. Um, a little short bit about our company when Glen XE "Glen" and I started, um, we are the co-founders and developers and basically everything at Open LORE. And what drove us to found the company is that we personally seen the frustration with dyslexia in the reading process as our spouses are in education. In my case, my children, are now avid readers, they struggled with reading when they were in elementary school. And we want to use our technical skills for help. So, what we're going to do today, I'll be mostly demonstrating our products or--we have three products. Uh, first is our exclusive Bookshare XE "Bookshare" edition reader which we're offering at a low price only to Bookshare users, uh, Read 1.2 and Learning Center XE "Center:See Also:Help Center" XE "Center" which comes out in about a month. Uh, we can say that our products are full-featured. It comes with everything you need for the richness experience, the Bookshare books. And we are one-time purchase. You have no continuous monthly subscriptions, no file size limitations or anything like that. We have a lot to show you so I'm going to get started without any further ado. Here, I have our home screen up and running. You can quickly see we're visually driven. You can access your library books with this icon, you can pick up from where you left off with this one. Uh, we have a Read-To-Me feature where you can quickly copy and read text or create and group original compositions. You can personalize by choosing one of our backgrounds or your own background, uh, your own image if you want. And my--like what I did in my case, I got this from the museum. Um, and then you can go to our webpage. And on our webpage you can find Support, Help XE "Help" , you can, um, look for, um, additional information, additional books that you're going to buy, our newsletter's out there, all those are available in the webpage.I should say that our program is, um, self-contained. You do not need to be in the Internet XE "Internet" to use it except for (word?). There's only two cases, (word?) for going out to the webpage and the second one is when you're actually downloading Bookshare XE "Bookshare" books and in that process, you need to be on Internet. That's it. Um, quickly to our Library XE "Library" , we have preloaded, um, several books available locally, uh, it depends. We have standard categories here, you know, your Help XE "Help" and Favorites XE "Favorites" .I created several, um, collections of my own. You can create your own collection, call it what you want, fully customizable. As you go to and select and particular title, you bring up the cover, we have a description and we can playback the description to you. And if you want to add your own books, click on Bookshare XE "Bookshare" , just real easy, click on Bookshare and you can see when 300 thousand different titles you need categories and things that help navigate so you can find what you're looking for. Here we got, you know, all--several different categories so it'd be easily found or you can browse and find what you need. I'm going to go search for one particular book. I'm looking for the Blue Book XE "Blue Book" of Fairy Tale XE "Fairy Tale" s XE "Fairy Tales" . I just type what I want, click on Search XE "Search" , there it is, and at the Download XE "Download" , I just click there. Real easy and that's successful. And now it's converting into a local format so it makes it reading and learning fast.Did it go through? There it is. Click XE "Click" on here to read. And there we are in our reading process, your reading screen, and one of the things that I want to do is bring our Table XE "Table" Of Contents XE "Contents" , go to a particular section, Beauty XE "Beauty" And The Beast XE "Beast" , and you notice we put the images on the side. We think that that helps in the easier tracking, the words as you go through but you still have the image available. You can click on the image if you want to find more details or information, you know, in the image, see it a little bit bigger. You can navigate by images as you want, back and forth. You can navigate of course, by pages, previous page (unintelligible). And you can play it at any point in the book. You just select where you want to start. We have several voices available. When it comes from Read 1.2 is five voices. They're all from the Acapella XE "Acapella" Group XE "Acapella Group" which offers excellent, um, excellent voices. In the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" edition, there's two voices and, um, 1.2 is five. You can adjust the speed, you can adjust the pitch, um, I'm going to make it a little bit faster and I'll make a change to Little Creature XE "Creature" , that's one of our fun voices.Okay. A little bit faster. Colors XE "Colors" , some people don't, you know, find difficult reading in the white background, black text so we offer all the colors available. You can change the colors for the page background, you can change your sentence colors, you can change the word, the highlighted word, and we have 12 pre-selected colors. We think it was really good, really, uh, to start with but if you don't like any of those, all 16 million different colors are available to your, to do your pages, words, sentences, the whole thing.Um, with these color combinations will be okay. We also make, you know, the text bigger, smaller, you can change it into text only, you know, text and images. You can keep with the, um, what we have it's called, uh, Lexia XE "Lexia" font which we believe is better and easier to read look but if you want the original publisher's font, you can select back and forth to what you want. Um, all these is per book, all these settings. So, one book you have one setting, another book can have a completely different setting or you can have the same settings.Either way, it's fully customizable to that. (background?noise) That's our Little Creature XE "Creature" voice. I'm going to quickly go back to Read-To-Me. And Read-To-Me, here you can, uh, cut and paste (word?) from anywhere. I'm going to paste in from the, uh, webinar and it probably got blocked up at that point so I'm going to cut, go back to our reader, and I'll paste it back in. And this is the announcement from the webinar. And you can see it has the same settings as before. You know, you can adjust the voice, you can adjust the colors, and this adjustment would be different from any particular book that you might be reading. And I don't really have time to go through all the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" edition features but most of them are right here--major ones. Um, you know, there's plenty more, too. I don't have time for that. I'm--we're going to switch gears and go into additional things available on Read 1.2.And one of the best features is we have a spell checker. It comes with Read 1.2 and I'm going to spell and I'm having trouble with spelling as well but if you might have, uh, there you go, that's misspelled, you click on there, it brings up a spell checker, you can see on the left-hand column, suggested words. You can playback a word, replace it, there's another word, replace it, and the next one, replace it. Uh, that's misspelled. And then I can go take that one, replace it, and we're done. And there you go and you can play that back.I'm going to go ahead and save that. Yeah, I want to replace it. Go back to last book read and it should start from where we left off, there it is and there's a couple additional features available in Read 1.2, uh, versus a highlight, you can highlight the notes there and you can also add a note or kind of note, or annotate. And one of those is the title note, hands-on text, and I'll do a spelling for you, and I'll do a spell check within it, replace that, yeah, it's done.Go back and I can play them. I should bring up--there are a couple of things I forgot to mention, um, on the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" edition, both available on Read 1.2, you're going to have a bookmark and we do come with a full Webster's Dictionary. Brand XE "Brand" new words, you can highlight and read the definition. And I'm out of time right now so, Glen XE "Glen" are you ready? I think it's your turn to talk about Learning Center XE "Center:See Also:Help Center" XE "Center" and what's available about a month. Are you ready, Glen?GLEN WAGNER XE "GLEN WAGNERXXYYAA:Speaking" Yes, I'm here. Uh, let me go ahead and share my screen.STEVE BAUER XE "STEVE BAUERXXYYAA:Speaking" Okay.GLEN WAGNER XE "GLEN WAGNERXXYYAA:Speaking" And, uh, Ginny XE "Ginny" can you see it? You should see a nice ocean background.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Yes, we're seeing your screen. Thank you.STEVE BAUER XE "STEVE BAUERXXYYAA:Speaking" Okay. Great.GLEN WAGNER XE "GLEN WAGNERXXYYAA:Speaking" Uh, well, um, it, it is really very exciting to see all the different ways that Bookshare XE "Bookshare" lovers can enjoy books they love. Uh, we're glad to be here as one of those options. Uh, I'll give you a brief glance onto how you can use Open LORE's upcoming Learning Center XE "Center:See Also:Help Center" XE "Center" . We want to reach a great a Bookshare reading experience and it also helps you reach your learning goal objectives. I'm showing the familiar Home Screen XE "Screen" again.Um, let's use the last web feature so we'll open up Blue Book XE "Blue Book" Of Fairy Tale XE "Fairy Tale" s XE "Fairy Tales" again. As I'm reading, I can add highlights on the words just like Steve XE "Steve" showed you which I've already done for this webinar. An additional feature Learning Center XE "Center:See Also:Help Center" XE "Center" is that I can choose words to add to a vocabulary list for the studying review. So, let's put the word. What's happening is the actions are automatically being saved into a Study Guide XE "Study Guide" you can access. Now, we're (unintelligible) notes, highlights a vocabulary words and are stored in the Study Guide XE "Study Guide" Collection XE "Study Guide Collection" . You can see we have several Study Guides XE "Study Guides" here. Each title indicates the book it's associated with. Let's open the one where the Blue Book XE "Blue Book" Of Fairy Tale XE "Fairy Tale" . And each group of Study Guide is organized in four chapters, Book Information XE "Book Information" , Book Highlights XE "Book Highlights" and Notes XE "Notes" .In here, you can see the book, book information and the synopsis. Let's look at Vocabulary XE "Vocabulary" Word and here you see the word that we just added with the Tempest XE "Tempest" and the word highlighted. Uh, the next chapter shows, uh, the text we've highlighted from the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" book, organized by section in the book, and last, uh, the notes that we've added, uh, also organized by the section of the book. So, Study Guide XE "Study Guide" s XE "Study Guides" may also be played back as a regular book. It also can be exported to a standard e-tab format so they may be shared with other Bookshare XE "Bookshare" members. I'll pull up a Home Screen XE "Screen" and I'll just briefly mention the other features of Learning Center XE "Center:See Also:Help Center" XE "Center" . Uh, remember I said that your vocabulary words are saved, well, you can edit and access that list here and then you can play a variety of vocabulary games that helps strengthen reading skills and comprehension. And then you can also create your own e-tabs and create book either by entering your own text, digitizing text from an image, or capturing text using our optional camera or file for scanner. Uh, so that's the main features of Learning Center XE "Center:See Also:Help Center" XE "Center" coming up in the middle of November XE "November" like Steve XE "Steve" mentioned. And at this point, we can take some questions or transition to the next speaker.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Thank you very much. Those are great presentations. Uh, I have not seen any questions come up specifically in the chatroom. If, uh, we'll take one moment to, uh, let some questions come through, um, otherwise we will hope to have questions at the end and be able to continuously add, uh, questions. So, we're going to try to bring back on, uh, we're going to try to bring back Yevgen now and I'm going to toggle back to our speaker room. Thank you all very much. We'll, we'll be back in one second. So, welcome back. Thank you very much for, uh, understanding our technology, uh, lots of people conversing here. So, we've got Capti XE "Capti" Narrator XE "Capti Narrator" , um, Yevgen Borodin XE "Yevgen Borodin:See Also:Borodin" XE "Yevgen Borodin" , Borodin XE "Borodin:See Also:Yevgen Borodin" XE "Borodin" 's coming online with Capti Narrator so Gene XE "Gene" , if you're ready, take it away with your share.YEVGEN BORODIN XE "YEVGEN BORODINXXYYAA:Speaking" Can you hear me well?GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Yes, we've got you.YEVGEN BORODIN XE "YEVGEN BORODINXXYYAA:Speaking" All right. So I'm going to use Control XE "Control" Plus to make the font bigger or Control Minus XE "Control Minus" to make the font smaller. Skip XE "Skip" forward, so you find a language learner and I don't know some word, I can right-click any word and see the translation, one of many supported languages. So, I can navigate by paragraphs, sentences, words, headings, some or select sentence and skip down a few sentences. I can go by page or I can search a text. If I wanted to choose a different voice, I will go to Voices and here I already have Sally XE "Sally" from IVONA installed. I can switch to Amy XE "Amy" . That's a little too slow. I can adjust the speech rate, make it a little faster or make it my default voice but if I want to download more voices, I go to More Voices. And here, I have voices from Acapella XE "Acapella" , from IVONA. I can sample them and install if I need to. I already have, uh, Spanish XE "Spanish" voices installed so if I go to a Spanish track that I, that I already have in my playlist, and press Play XE "Play" , it will read it to me in Spanish. The Capti XE "Capti" can be installed and used right out of the box. It's free (unintelligible). I will set to Spanish XE "Spanish" , level medium, if I answer 95 percent of questions correctly, I will get this platinum star. Okay, wait for a few seconds for it to start and when it runs, it will choose a word on the stage, show it to my context full of sentence and give me versions of answers in the language that I selected. If I choose an incorrect question--answer, then it will show me what the correct answer was, give me an opportunity to redo that. When I end the game, if I'm giving up and I'll be able to review my answers. Now, it's really cool that I can synchronize and switch to Capti XE "Capti" iPhone and synchronize. In here I have The Airview Magazine XE "Airview Magazine" in the Playlist XE "Playlist" and I can keep listening to this magazine. Um, organizations would have an account with Capti and manage their users by adding them one by one or in bulk. Here, I have two users already and these are the people who will have the premium account who will have all the premium pieces that Capti has. And of course, organizations, of course, are much cheaper than for individuals. Um, we have to wait for November XE "November" , we will add a tool to create multiple playlists. So, the teachers can create a playlist, share to students, manage it, and students get all of the contents by pressing the Synchronize XE "Synchronize" button. Its simplistic design allows for members to easily and quickly access Bookshare content and add additional plugins to modify the layout further to fit their needs. And we have a few minutes left, so I'm happy to answer any specific questions that might have come up.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Thank you, Nick XE "Nick" . And there was a lot of great information. This, um, this information is available on Bookshare XE "Bookshare" . We'll have the links out, um, and there are some Get Started video, um, as well as more information in the Help XE "Help" Center XE "Help Center:See Also:Center" XE "Help Center" regarding all of these different settings. Are there any other questions? Uh, we'd like to see active, ActiveDyslexic. Do you want me to, uh, try doing that, Nick?NICK BOWEN XE "NICK BOWENXXYYAA:Speaking" Sure.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Um, I was not logged in. Um, right. So, um, while I'm logging in, are there any other questions? Any others right this moment? Uh, Nick XE "Nick" , if the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" needs a special download or is it just available the way it is when you come to the website?NICK BOWEN XE "NICK BOWENXXYYAA:Speaking" It is just available the way it is when you come to the website. One of the, uh, biggest advantages, one of the things that we've heard from, from the many members is on schools or some specific situations, it's hard to get Administrator XE "Administrator" rights to actually install an application onto a computer that a Bookshare XE "Bookshare" member might need. The Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" was designed to just open. There's no need to install anything at all. There's no need for Administrator rights or anything like that.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Right. So, I am going to share my--I'm not the best book, I just--I picked just one book that I had in my history but let's, uh, bring that up. Um, let me share my screen now. So, you're all seeing Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" with, uh, Beatrix's Peter XE "Peter:See Also:Beatrix Peter" XE "Peter" , um, Adventures XE "Adventures" of Peter, uh, Adventure XE "Adventure" Of Peter Rabbit XE "Peter Rabbit:See Also:Ra" XE "Peter Rabbit" , I believe. Um, so, if I go to the settings area and I choose OpenDyslexic, hmm, without screen. We don't do this real time. (laugh) Um, oh now, it's coming back. So, you see the change is that the OpenDyslexic font is, is weighted in a different way. The, the look and feel of it. It works for some people, it doesn't work for others. Uh, it's just--it is an option to play around it.NICK BOWEN XE "NICK BOWENXXYYAA:Speaking" The theory behind the OpenDyslexic font is it simply gives each letter an anchor so it helps stabilize the letters for the readers, uh, to access but as Ginny XE "Ginny" said, it's, it's a very personalized, uh, choice so some, some members has a benefit from it and others don't. And it's, it's just an option that, that fits the needs for that specific number.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Great. Thanks. So, I'm going to, uh, get out of the sharing mode. Um, get out of sharing mode. (laugh) And we're--are we back onto--terrific. Any questions? Thank you. So, um, if there are no other questions, we're going to bring up, um, Beth XE "Beth" from, from the, uh, I'm sorry, I'm trying to do many things at once, Beth from Don Johnston XE "Don Johnston" who's going to be speaking about Snap XE "Snap" &Read Universal XE "Universal" . So, let's take you off. Go ahead, Beth. Beth, are you able to hear us?BETH KALISH XE "BETH KALISHXXYYAA:Speaking" Yes, we are here.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Tremendous XE "Tremendous" . Welcome.BETH KALISH XE "BETH KALISHXXYYAA:Speaking" Good day. I will start without a time zone. Great. Thank you so much for including Don Johnston XE "Don Johnston" in, in you webinar today. And we greatly appreciate that.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Welcome. We're so glad to have you.BETH KALISH XE "BETH KALISHXXYYAA:Speaking" Awesome XE "Awesome" . Well, thank you to all of our participants who are coming to learn, um, primarily about Bookshare XE "Bookshare" but how, you know, spending the time with us here at Don Johnston XE "Don Johnston" and learning about our solution Snap XE "Snap" &Read Universal XE "Universal" . Uh, some of it might be familiar and hopeful that are in attendance today but Snap&Read Universal is a support that we offer for students, uh, available on your Windows XE "Windows" , your MAC, and as an extension in your Chrome XE "Chrome:See Also:Google Chrome" XE "Chrome" browser. So, I'm just here in our website and I'm hopeful that everybody stays with me as I switch from page to page. Uh, and as we have talked about, we are in our Chrome XE "Chrome:See Also:Google Chrome" XE "Chrome" browser and our Bookshare XE "Bookshare" Web, uh, Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" is open. (unintelligible) just want to make sure that you guys are staying with me. (unintelligible) Support here at the top right-hand side. It's easy for our students. It's going to be available and can read any content across multiple websites, uh, documents, Google XE "Google" documents that have been kind of put in here in our Bookshare Web Reader. And on the top right-hand side, you're going to see three icons. The Seek XE "Seek" button is really just simply that. It's any place on a page I can come along. So, that's my Speaker XE "Speaker" button. (unintelligible) the accessible text to be read back to me. This is the book that we've, um, already opened up for the sake of time so it's just a book that's accessible to our students. As I mentioned, (unintelligible). You can always tell the difference between accessible and inaccessible by the ability of selecting that with my mouse. What you can't see is that I'm actually doing that. When we do (unintelligible) book per, per se that does have access--not accessible. I'm sorry, what you guys can't see on my screen is there's actually little (word?) icons up at the top. So, as try as I might, this is an image. I can actually--I can even print that out even more dramatically here 'cause it's kind of following me along with my mouse. That's not going to be read to us because it's not accessible. You can actually hear sometimes (unintelligible) icon and by selecting that, you have the ability to have to crop here, to take and select any text I want and arrange a PDF, a picture. When I select what I want and let go, it'll actually begin reading to me. As we move across these different platforms, the text will be read to us and I'm just going to go down here a little bit towards the bottom. And again, having that text being read to us or our expectations for reading has now been raised with this near Common State Standard XE "State Standard:See Also:Core State Standard" XE "State Standard" --Common Core State Standard XE "Core State Standard:See Also:State Standard" XE "Core State Standard" and that expectation is raised. We're going to begin to have books be read to us that we are going to potentially. As the (unintelligible) was read to me, there were a few words that even I got kind of stuck at them. What you can actually do with now come along and select this text. And the value of this third icon over here is going to allow me the ability to change that complexity of that text. So, what it will do now after I, I click on it, it will take those words and change that complexity. So, when I kind of hover over--and I'm hopeful you can see--these words have been left within that content and it's in italicized. And when I hover over, I can actually see the original word was, distressed, and now it has been changed to, worry. I can still have that read back to me by selecting my Speaker XE "Speaker" button and I'm just going to start at the beginning. As the text is being read back to me, I'm hearing those words that were changed and now I'm comprehending and better understanding what that actually meant. It was important to always recognize when Snap XE "Snap" &Read will accept that content of those words. It is going to be within that of the (unintelligible) sentence that we are having those words changed to. We're not going to do you a definition for some definitions might not be appropriate. If you think about the word, flush, it had several different meanings. I've been told that with motels, always remember to flush the toilet. But if I was a little (word?) in the statements that I wish to have made, my face might be reddish pink. So, there are those two definitions that quickly comes to mind that it's important that we look at the content of the--that sentence and make sure we do give the true definition. So, that's where we're going to be set apart in that we will look at how that word is being used. The complexity will be changed appropriately and from there, it will be read back to our students. When we think about our students who don't have English XE "English" as their first language, what we can do is come along and follow, here I'll just point out briefly and quickly, this is where you can change your background colors, your rate of speech, your text, your voice. (unintelligible) like a female voice, you can absolutely change those. But down here where I had English XE "English" selected, where my primary language has been determined. English is not my first language. I can come along and possibly choose a different voice. I'm going to choose French XE "French" as my native language. I can then come along and have the same selection. Let me go ahead and change the complexity one more time. And we will see, worry, distress, and I can actually come along and have that changed one more time to my native language. So, it'll read that first sentence and again you can see that, worry, has been changed, too. You know, let me change to French so it can speak it for PUTERIZED VOICE XE "COMPUTERIZED VOICEXXYYAA:Speaking" My wife, however, perceived my in quieter and stress in spite of my voice calmness.BETH KALISH XE "BETH KALISHXXYYAA:Speaking" So, what it has done is now that it has asked me my native language. I have a better understanding. It's my comfort zone and now I can continue on. You know, the reader can take whatever text is acceptable and it's going to read it with my Speak button. If it's not acceptable, I can go ahead and do--and make it acceptable by using my second icon. At least having that ability, acceptable or not to change that complexity so we better understand. Our newest, most incredible support, I believe, that we've just recently added is the ability to include an outline. So, let's just hop over here to our last book within the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" and let's put together an outline. I mean, it's just more just study guide 'cause I do have a test coming up. All I did, and I'm hopeful you can see down here at the bottom, is an arrow key and by selecting that, it allows me the opportunity to include my outline. I actually have one started here today but you can always go up here if it happens when you want to start going on the fly.A lot of this (unintelligible) to start listing the objective. All I need to do is select what I need to be included in my outline. I click on this (stammers) this little icon here. And by selecting that, it's going to move it over. I do recognize that if I set this perfect for reading--prior to my reading, I'll be more successful. I would know what I need to look for. And if I come along and let's just do one more, when I come along and start reading, (unintelligible) question and answer them down here, (unintelligible).COMPUTERIZED VOICE XE "COMPUTERIZED VOICEXXYYAA:Speaking" Cells XE "Cells" share the same needs: the need to get energy from their environment, the need to respond to the environment, and the need to reproduce. Cells must also be able to separate their relatively stable interior...BETH KALISH XE "BETH KALISHXXYYAA:Speaking" If we hop along and again continue reading anywhere I want within this page...COMPUTERIZED VOICE XE "COMPUTERIZED VOICEXXYYAA:Speaking" ...the membrane, also called the cell membrane, has many functions. For example, it separates the internal environment of the cell from the outside.BETH KALISH XE "BETH KALISHXXYYAA:Speaking" (unintelligible) questions to one of the answers to that question. All I need to do again is to come along and highlight. I can always indent. I can always make the appropriate changes that I need and as I mentioned, this is going to be a study guide for my test. I can turn it in as a book report to help on time and not needing to retype all of this again what I can do in the normal guide. (unintelligible) to a Word document and we're up and running. So, that is Snap XE "Snap" &Read Universal XE "Universal" . We have on our last guide, some additional information. There's also a short little video. It is again, an extension within the Chrome XE "Chrome:See Also:Google Chrome" XE "Chrome" browser, also available on your MAC and your Windows XE "Windows" , all-inclusive in that same subscription. If you need any additional information from me, feel free to reach out.You can e-mail, e-mail me at bkalish@. Ginny XE "Ginny" , thank you for your time today and thanks everyone for, for listening to us.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Thank you so much, Beth XE "Beth" . This is, uh, a great, uh, tool that you've built. Um, I think everyone's going to be so excited for you to come back and look at these, these, uh, broadcasts and see all the different tools that our members have at their hands especially the study tools that we've been seeing today. So, our last, um, speaker today is Nick XE "Nick" Lum XE "Nick Lum" from BeeLine and Nick, can we do, uh, a little voice chat, please? I'm going to try to pull him in from the speaker room. Just a moment please, everyone.I would like to welcome Nick XE "Nick" Lum XE "Nick Lum" showing off BeeLine Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" with books as your Web Reader.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" Hi, everyone. My name is Nick XE "Nick" and I'm the creator of BeeLine Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" . I'm going to share my screen now here for you.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" And we can--we're seeing it come up now. Thank you, Nick XE "Nick" .NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" Great. So, here I'm breaking the cardinal rule of PowerPoint. It's, you know, unexpectedly quick. Let me just open this up one more.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" You have to say you're breaking the rule in, in the (stammers)...NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" I know.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" There's, there's that.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" I know.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" So, we've all been there.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" Uh...GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Are there any questions, uh, Beth XE "Beth" is still, um, on the line as a presenter? If anyone does have any specific questions that they want to put in to chat, uh, she'll be able to answer those. Uh, Nick XE "Nick" is bringing up his presentation.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" Okay. I'm not going to say that part again. (laugh)GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" No, don't.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" Here, I am displaying a large black of text which is a perfectly normal thing to do in a presentation. Uh, so the reason I'm doing this is to show how it is--how technology works. The key is that there's a color gradient that flows through the text and the color at the end of one line matches up with the color at the beginning of the next one. So that when a reader...GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" (overlapping) Nick XE "Nick" , we may have to have you, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but we may have to have you re-share this application.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" Yeah. Ah, okay.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Uh, it is not displaying it.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" It's not going in. Okay. Are you seeing it now?GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Oh, we've got it. Thank you. I'm going to go back on mute and let you have, have this table.NICK LUM XE "NICK LUMXXYYAA:Speaking" Sorry. So, we have a color gradient that goes with the text and the color at the end of each line matches up with the color at the beginning of the following line. So, the first line ends with blue, the second line begins with blue. So, when the reader is moving their eyes from line to line, they're drawn to the right line with the color gradient. This is something useful for readers of all ages and skill level but we found that it's especially helpful for readers with, um, with difficulty reading and kids who are learning how to read for the first time. So, there are three, three groups in particular that, uh, will be interested to hear about how our technology works with those with dyslexia, attention deficits, and vision impairments. We launched our product in 2013 not specifically targeting particular groups of readers but we heard from people that this was super helpful, um, and the, the people who contact us attributed to reading difficulties that they have had.And so, we started talking with Special Education XE "Education" teachers and (stammers) the folks at, at Bookshare XE "Bookshare" to find out more about what it is that's going on and why this is, this was so helpful. So, uh, Bookshare was kind enough to do a, uh, mentor survey, with their mentor community and we were able to get feedback from eight mentors working with about 60 different students. And they looked at whether this is helpful from an objective perspective and also a subjective perspective. And from an objective (stammers) perspective, measuring whether this was actually helping students read more easily and more fluently, the results were very strong showing that for, uh, about, uh, 30 to 40 percent of the, the mentors, all of the students benefited for another about 40 percent most, uh, benefited and for the remainder, a few of the students benefited. So, overall, this is, um, truly helpful for the, the, the mentors who were able to use the tools.Of course, um, you don't want to have what we refer to it as broccoli, something that's good for somebody--good for kids but if they don't want to use--fortunately, um, the subject of impressions from the students lined up fairly well with the object of benefit. So, for most of the students that were actually receiving a benefit, they also indicated that they liked it and actually wanted to use it.And the feedback that we got from the mentors was tremendous. Um, people were excited to have--find out about this new tool. We're a fairly new start-up company and excited about the prospect that we might be able to work with Bookshare XE "Bookshare" someday and make their content, BeeLine-able, as we call it. Um, the feedback was also good from the students who said, not surprisingly, that it helps them reading because they didn't have to stop and hunt for their place or lose track of the words they were reading. And this doesn't just apply when a reader is transitioning between lines. It can also apply when reader's just reading a long line and they bounced around a little bit. So, we now have a beta integration that's up and running with Bookshare XE "Bookshare" and I'm not going to, uh, attempt the, the face and try to do a live demo. I just have a slide here to see what it looks like. Um, this is, uh, a page in the book, um, that you can see at the top, there's this new menu that wasn't in the previous demo of the Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" , uh, and that's the BeeLine menu. And you can choose different color schemes. Uh, some people like the bright colors because it's very easy to see. This is the most popular color scheme, it's bright red and bright blue. The dark color scheme is, uh, a more muted red and blue. Blues XE "Blues" is blue and purple with black. Gray XE "Gray" , gray is gray scale and that works for, um, for all folks equally and, and so folks who don't see colors or don't see colors the same way can use that. And then we also offer an inverted color scheme so that if you're reading before going to bed or if you simply don't like reading on a white background then you can use that as well.If you want to find out about how to join the beta, um, there's just a couple of steps. If you e-mail beta@Bookshare XE "Bookshare" .org then you're receive an invite with an activation link in the e-mail. Click XE "Click" on the activation link, it will take you a webpage and then click on the Activate XE "Activate" button on that webpage and it'll be turned on so that when you go into the Web Reader XE "Reader:See Also:Beeline Reader" XE "Reader" , you'll see the BeeLine menu at the top. Um, we also have other tools that can be used outside of the, the Web Reader. And these are plugins for Chrome XE "Chrome:See Also:Google Chrome" XE "Chrome" and FireFox, also an iOS app and a PDF converter. With these tools, you can read websites, um, some news, research, Wikipedia XE "Wikipedia" , and you can also read Kindle XE "Kindle" books or OverDrive books that you borrow from a library. Here's a quick demo of what it does look like. On the left, you can see an iPad display. This is what it looks like to read an iPad, uh, read a Kindle book on the iPad in our iPad app and on the right-hand side, you can see how the browser plugin works. This is a Google XE "Google" (stammers), uh, document so, uh, you can read any Google document as well as, um, content from thousands of different web pages, uh, by color gradients. I know we're running a little behind and I want to make sure we have time for Q&A so please, um, feel free to chime in and if you have any questions, you can e-mail nick@ and I'll help.GINNY GRANT XE "GINNY GRANTXXYYAA:Speaking" Nick XE "Nick" , that was fabulous. Um, so, I do know that we are a couple of minutes over. We still have quite a few people, um, on the (stammers) on the webinar but if anyone does have any questions, you can post some quickly now or just send your notes to Nick directly and indeed we are recording this entire, uh, webinar and we'll put it onto the same page where you registered. You'll now see a link for the recordings of these, uh, of these webinars. So, if, I don't see any other questions coming in right this moment but, um, Nick XE "Nick" and to all presenters we had today, um, thank you so much for showing our members all the different ways that we can augment the Bookshare XE "Bookshare" tool, Bookshare books with all the tools, different reading tools and study tools. Um, again thank you all for, for taking this time and we will see you in on the next webinar. All right. Take care. ................
