Delete the “Note to Specifier” hints within this Section during the Review.***** - GENERALSUMMARYSection Includes: Include labor, materials, equipment, and accessories necessary to furnish and install pipe and pipe fittings for new systems or the extension of existing systems as indicated on Drawings.DESCRIPTION OF WORKStorm Water Systems:Extent of storm water systems work is indicated on Drawings and schedules, and by requirements of this Section.Refer to appropriate Division 33 sections for exterior storm sewer system required in conjunction with storm water systems not work of this Section.Insulation for storm water systems is specified in Section 22 07 00, Plumbing Insulation, and is included as work of this Section.Trenching and backfilling required in conjunction with underground building drain piping is specified in Section 22 00 00, Plumbing - General Requirements, and is included as work of this Section.SUBMITTALS*****Note to Specifier: Delete items not used in project*****Shop Drawings: Contractor shall submit a Shop Drawing portfolio showing cleanouts, area drains, trench drains, catch basins, and roof drains indicating style, size, and quantity of each for approval by Architect/Engineer. Each component, variation, model number, and option called out in this Specification is to be clearly indicated in submittal for each item. Shop Drawings not complying will be subject to rejection and resubmittal.Where different styles of cleanout covers are required, the Shop Drawing shall clearly indicate the style and finish of each cleanout cover style.Contractor shall submit a portfolio of pipe and fitting submittals showing adherence to ASTM and CISPI Standards and manufacturer used.Shop Drawings - Waste Water Pumps: Contractor shall submit a portfolio showing pumps, motors, and diagrams indicating wiring and connections, along with catalog cuts and pump characteristic curves indicating each pump, for approval by Architect/Engineer. Each component, variation, model number, and option called out in this Specification is to be clearly indicated in submittal for each item. Where not indicated, provide proper selection as determined by installer in accordance with installation requirements. Provide sizes and types matching piping and equipment connections; provide fittings of materials that match pipe materials used in storm water systems. Glued joints. Interior Above Grade: Aboveground rainwater leaders, gravity flow installation shall be service weight cast iron no-hub pipe and fittings, Standards ASTM A888 or ASTM A74, for all pipe and fittings. Joints for no-hub pipe and fittings shall be no-hub couplings, Standard ASTM C564. Restrain all fittings.Not Acceptable: ABS pipe and fittings are not acceptable.CLEANOUTS AND CLEANOUT COVERSClean-Out Plugs: Cast bronze or brass threads, in accordance with ANSI B2-1, with countersunk heads.Floor Cleanouts - All Areas: Unfinished floors, cast iron body with round nickle bronze top; 1/8-inch recessed top for tile floors, 1/2-inch recess for terrazzo floors. All flush with finish floor.Wall Cleanout Access Covers: Stainless steel shallow cover or chrome placed deep cover with vandal-proof center screws.BACKWATER VALVESValve: Josam Company 67500 Series, coated cast iron backwater valve, offset type, bronze swing check assembly, bolted gasketed cover, and hub and spigot connections.Floor Access Covers: Provide Josam Company, Type 58632, floor access frame and 10-inch square hinged cover for access to backwater valves.AREA DRAINSGeneral: Area drains shall be of type and size indicated on the Drawings. Area drain strainers and rims shall be as noted. Josam Manufacturing Company numbers are used in this Specification.Area Drains at Exterior Entrance: Josam 32100-17, coated cast iron floor drain, 2-piece body with double drainage flange, flashing collar, weepholes, bottom outlet, and medium duty secured grate with vandal resistant screws. Install without a trap.Area Drains in Areaway: Josam 32100-13, coated cast iron floor drain, 2-piece body with double drainage flange, weepholes, bottom outlet, and cast iron dome grate. Install without a trap.*****Note To Specifier: When exterior trench drains are used, coordinate with MPS on type.*****TRENCH DRAINSGeneral: Trench drains shall be of the type and size specified or indicated on the Drawings. MEA/Josam Company numbers are used in this Specification.Non-Metallic Trench Drains: Polyester resin and aggregate, precast, interlocking design, with bottom radius and 0.6 percent slope. MEA/Josam, U1000 Series. Use in floors resting on earth.Precast Material: Load pressure of 14,500 psi, bending pressure of 2,900 psi, frost-proof, salt-proof, inert under dilute acid and alkali conditions, and less than 1.0 percent water absorption rate.Provide with a deep seal P-trap.Each pipe outlet shall be factory installed.Grates and Tops:Grate: Slotted stainless steel with locking device, Load Class A15, with openings designed to prevent entry to wheelchair tires. MEA/Josam 152200 Series with 152211 locking mechanism. These are for use in shower area and pottery area.Grate and Top: Slotted ductile iron with locking device, Load Class C250, with openings designed to prevent entry to wheelchair tires. MEA/Josam 152411 Series with 152116 locking mechanism. These are for use at loading dock and shops area.Overlay Rails: Cast ductile iron overlay rails to protect channel edge. These are for use in the pottery area.ROOF DRAINSGeneral: Roof drains shall be of type and size specified or indicated on the Drawings. Josam Company numbers are used in this Specification.Provide 30-inch by 30-inch galvanized or zinc coated extension flange for each roof drain or an approved material thickness sheet.Gravel guard shall not come in contact with roof membrane.Ballasted Roof: Roof flashing for roof drain may be omitted if a ballasted roof is used.Adjustable insulation extensions are not allowed.Vandal-proof domes required on all structures 1-story in height only, or multi-story high roofs accessible from 1-story structures by ships ladders or stairs.High quality enameled coated cast iron body with no-hub outlet, metal dome, flashing clamps, under-deck clamps, and sump receivers.One piece drain bowl assemblies only.No extension rings allowed.Use clamp rings with a minimum of 4 bolts.Minimum 4 foot spacing between primary and overflow drains. *****Note To Specifier: Roof Drains with Expansion Joints shall be used when the vertical drop is immediately below the drain with no offset.*****Roof Drain With Rainwater Expansion Joint: Provide coated cast iron expansion joint, ABS sleeve, packing gland with pressure ring, and threaded and outlet connections.*****Note To Specifier: Designer must determine if the overflow drain bodies are set at the same elevation as the regular roof drains or if they are set higher on the roof. Coordinate with Architectural. Choose one of the next two options, delete the other.*****Overflow Roof: External water dam only.Downspout Nozzle: Smith Model 1770, or Owner approved equal, rough brass finish.*****Note to Specifier: Splash blocks are normally provided by Architects, coordinate with Arch. and Civil.*****Precast Concrete Splash Blocks: Install a 4-inch thick by 18-inch wide by 30-inch long under each outside drain and inspector's test connections. Constructed of not less than 4,000 psi air entrained concrete. Shape and slope splash block to conduct water away from building. Provide smooth surface finish, consistent in color.RAINWATER EXPANSION JOINTSGeneral: Expansion joints shall be of the type and size specified or indicated on the Drawings. Josam Manufacturing Company numbers are used in this Specification.Rainwater Expansion Joint: Josam Manufacturing Company, Series 26200, coated cast iron expansion joint, ABS sleeve, packing gland with bolted pressure ring, and male inlet and outlet threaded connections.FROST-PROOF ROOF JACKSGeneral: Galvanized frost-proof vent caps with 1-inch air gap between outside of vent pipe and inside of flashing collar extension. Install vandal-proof roof caps. Provide pipe flashing with draw band on vent pipes on top of flashing sleeve.CATCH BASINS*****Note to Specifier: Verify with Civil that they are providing the Catch Basins. Make sure there are details on their Drawings.*****General: Install catch basins where shown on Drawings, constructed as detailed. Refer to Division 33 Drawings.SUBMERSIBLE SUMP PUMPSCasing: Pump shall be a single stage type with close grained, cast iron casing of uniform thickness. Unit shall have a prime coat and a machinery gray, enamel finish.*****Note To Specifier: Fill in blank with size.*****Pump discharge elbow is cast integrally with the pump volute and is tapped to receive a ___-inch discharge pipe.Pump suction has a tapered entrance way and is positioned clear of the sump floor by means of tripod legs cast integrally with the volute.Impeller: Cast bronze impeller shall be of the multi-port type that remains in natural hydraulic balance, and shall be dynamically balanced to prevent vibrations.Pump Shaft: Impeller shall be keyed to stainless steel motor pump shaft of ample diameter to eliminate the need for a flexible coupling.Mechanical type shall be provided.Motor: Motor shall be single phase, 60 Hertz, AC, and shall operate at full load speed of 1,725 rpm in accordance with nameplate ratings.Motor shall be 4-pole ball bearing type designed for submersible operation and having thermal overload protection.Float Switch: Float operated watertight switch shall be of positive action, quick change type with holding coil and of the standard built-in type for direct operation.*****Note To Specifier: Fill in blank with size.*****Basin: Fabricate sump basin of steel and fit 1/4-inch thick with steel basin cover, with access plates, to accommodate a ___-inch discharge and power cord. Coat tank inside and out with bitumastic paint.Basin shall accommodate ___-inch inlet as shown on Drawings.DUPLEX SUMP PUMPSGeneral: Pumps shall be the single suction volute centrifugal type, suspended from a 20-inch outside diameter, heavy cast iron floor plate by a rigid flanged hanger pipe. Motor shall be mounted on a tripod resting on the floor plate.Pump Casings: Casing shall be heavy cast iron designed for maximum efficiency with wide smooth water passages, volute type, easy access to impeller.Impeller: Impeller shall be accurately machined and balanced for efficient operation, keyed and positively locked on shaft; reverse rotation shall not loosen impeller. Location and adjustment for wear shall be provided by adjustable thrust bearing. Impeller shall be open type.Thrust Bearing: Self-aligning type, fully enclosed and located above floor plate.Pump Shaft: Shaft shall be high carbon steel, heat treated, accurately ground to size and polished. Shaft shall be of ample size to prevent whip and transmit maximum load required. Pump shaft shall have renewable bronze intermediate bearings spaced to eliminate shaft vibration. Casing bearing shall be renewable bronze; bearings shall have individual lines for lubrication.*****Note To Specifier: Delete rpm not needed.*****Motors: Motors shall be moisture-proof type, open drip-proof, 1,150 1,750 rpm, mounted 15 inches above floor plate on a rigid tripod. Pump and motor shall be held in perfect alignment.Control: Heavy copper floats shall operate a 2-pole automatic switch, mounted on a cast iron pedestal bolted to the floor plate.Each unit shall consist of copper float, brass float rod, float rod guide, and adjustable rod buttons to govern variation in pumping level.Duplex Control Panels: System shall be provided with a factory wired duplex control panel in a cabinet for use with float switch control. Duplex panel shall include:Fusible Disconnect Switches with Handles Through Cover(2) Magnetic Starters with Overload Reset Through CoverAutomatic Alternator; separately fusedWired Terminal StripRunning Lights; visible through panel doorSump Basins/Covers: Concrete sump basins shall be provided by others. Provide a square 1/4-inch thick cast iron cover, with access plates, for duplex pumps. Each cover shall be sized for a 42-inch by 42-inch basin.Removal System: Guide poles and lifting rope shall be included for pump removal and repair. Pumps shall have quick disconnect flanges. - EXECUTIONINSPECTIONGeneral: Examine substrate and conditions under which storm water system is to be installed. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in manner acceptable to installer.GENERAL REQUIREMENTSPipe Routing: Contractor shall ascertain location of electrical panelboards, and shall keep piping out of area above panelboards, for a distance of 3'-6" in front of and 1'-6" from each side of panelboards. This includes all VAV box control panels.Pipe Runs: Piping shall be run substantially as shown on Drawings in the most direct manner, avoiding unnecessary joints. Changes necessary for piping to meet requirements of electrical panels or other aspects of building construction shall be made by Contractor without extra charge. Defective pipe, fittings, and valves that may have been installed shall be removed and replaced with new and good quality material.Outside Utilities: Confirm invert elevations on-site, and provide minimum 5-foot bury on outside drainage piping where possible. Install 2-inch thick extruded polystyrene over underground building drain piping not under building. Provide width to extend minimum of 18 inches beyond each side of pipe. Install directly over pipe, centered on pipe center line.Pipe Sizes: Pipe sizes shown on Drawings are nominal, unless otherwise indicated.Pipe Lengths: Special lengths of pipe shall be cut accurately to measurements established at the site and worked into place without springing or forcing.*****Note To Specifier: Edit as needed, the shaded portions of the next paragraph.*****Storm Drainage: Provide a storm drainage system complete with cleanouts, catchbasins, roof drains, and connection to the storm sewer main in street on-site existing storm building drain within the building.*****Note To Specifier: Use the paragraph below if there is no on-site storm sewer, otherwise delete.*****Storm Drainage: Provide a storm drainage system complete with cleanouts, roof drains, and downspout nozzles. Storm drainage will spill to grade.Lubrication: Lubricate cleanout plugs with plumbers grease. Prior to building turnover, remove cleanout plugs, relubricate, and reinstall using only enough force to ensure permanent leakproof joint.Horizontal Drainage Piping: Install 2 1/2 inches in diameter and less with a slope not less than 1/4 inch per foot. Install 3 inches in diameter and larger with a slope not less than 1/8 inch per foot.Above ground piping with joints consisting of couplings with steel band or MG cast iron couplings, except that MG couplings shall be used for the lowest 20 feet of rainwater leaders or waste stacks higher than 25 feet. Contractor may substitute "Clamp-All" torqued couplings with stainless steel bands in place of the MG couplings.Cleanouts:Install cleanouts and cleanout covers in accordance with the Plumbing Code.Install where shown on Drawings, at base of each waste stack, each vertical rainwater leader, at the beginning of a battery of ganged toilets, near the connection between the building drain and the building sewer, at each change of pipe size requiring a larger cleanout and where necessary to allow the rodding out of the entire system.Cleanouts to be installed at every change in direction in excess of 45 degrees. Avoid placement of cleanouts under stationary equipment or furniture. Floor cleanouts noted on Drawings shall not be eliminated due to adjacent stack cleanouts.Install cleanouts every 75 feet on underground storm piping.Provide a cleanout where new drainage and vent piping connects with existing piping to facilitate the testing of the new installation.Cleanout covers shall be set flush with the floor. The cleanout at the point where the drain exits the building shall be set at least 2 inches above the floor in unfinished areas; it may be set flush with the floor in finished areas.Area Drains:Area drains in floors not resting on earth shall have 3-foot square, 4-pound lead sheet provided and clamped to floor drain. Chloraloy may be substituted for lead.Protect installed area drains during construction period to avoid clogging with dirt and debris, and to prevent damage from traffic and construction work.Trench Drains:Install trench drains with factory approved sealant at each joint.Install trench drains in accordance with manufacturer’s installation requirements, including a minimum of 4 inches of concrete around (3) sides of the drain. Refer to trench drain installation detail on Drawings.Each outlet shall have a factory installed pipe outlet; outlets drilled in the field will not be acceptable.Install the grates with locking devices.Protect installed trench drains during construction period to avoid clogging with dirt and debris, and to prevent damage from traffic and construction work.Roof Drains:General: Install roof drains in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions and in locations indicated.Install where shown on Drawings.The drain inlet for overflow roof drains shall be 2 inches higher than the regular roof drain.Provide 36-inch by 36-inch, 4-pound sheet lead flashing. Nobleflex type flashings are not allowed.Coordinate flashing work with work of roofing, water proofing, and adjoining substrate work.Coordinate with roofing as necessary to interface roof drains with roofing work.Install roof drains at low points of surface areas to be drained or as indicated.Coordinate with storm water systems as necessary to interface drains with drainage piping systems.Install drain flashing collar or flange so that no leakage occurs between roof drain and adjoining roofing. Maintain integrity of waterproof membranes where penetrated.Position roof drains so that they are accessible and easy to maintain.Expansion Joints:Install where shown on Drawings.Install to allow for optimum expansion.Controlled Flow Roof Drains: Each controlled flow roof drain shall be factory calibrated to a specific flow rate and tagged. The drains shall be installed with the drain flow rates matching the flow rates indicated on the Drawings for that drain location.Downspout Nozzles: Mount downspout nozzles 18 inches above finished grade.Precast Concrete Splash Blocks: Slope splash block to conduct water away from building.Vandal Resistant Vent Caps:Vandal-proof vent caps required on all structures 1-story in height only, or multi-story high roofs accessible from 1-story structures by ships ladders or stairs.PIPE CONNECTIONS*****Note To Specifier: Delete one of the two shaded sentences below-whichever one is not applicable - In most cases the first sentence is applicable, very rarely is the second sentence applicable.*****Permits and Fees: Secure required permits and pay fees. Make connections, outside the building footprint, to piping provided by Civil Contractor. Make connections to municipal services.Inverts: Provide extensions to existing storm sewer services or building drain. Before commencing work, check invert elevations required for connections, confirm inverts, and ensure that these can be properly connected with slope for drainage and cover to avoid freezing.Cast Iron Joints:Joints For Cast Iron Hub and Spigot Pipe: Neoprene gasketing system.Joints For Plain End Pipe: Gasket and clamp type mechanical fastener.Hubless Fittings: Piping shall fit in spaces provided. Careful attention shall be given to making up joints to prevent stripped thread bolt clamps. Manufacturer's recommended sealant type lubricant shall be used for assembling joints. Contractor may use press fit rubber ring gasket type joint in storm sewer piping below grade only, where acceptable by state and local codes.Gaskets: Flanged joints shall have flat ring gaskets, not less than 1/16-inch thick; (1) gasket to each joint. Paint both side of the gasket with graphite and oil before being put in place. Gaskets shall extend full available diameter inside of bolt holes and no part shall extend inside of piping.Sewer Pipe Joints: Joints for cast iron hub and spigot pipe shall be lead and oakum type or neoprene gasketing system.
