Telephone Service

Liechtenstein

Switzerland

Communication of 11.XII.1997:

Advance Notification regarding the introduction of

country code “423” for telephony (ITU-T E.164)

in the Principality of Liechtenstein

The telephony country code “423” has been reserved for Liechtenstein in accordance with the normal ITU/TSB procedures.

This communication, from SWISSCOM, Berne (Suisse), is therefore intended, for guidance purposes, to give advance notice to all telecommunication operators of the planned introduction in early April 1999 of the country code “423” for the Principality of Liechtenstein.

From the date of introduction of the new country code, Liechtenstein will cease to form part of the Swiss numbering plan for international and national telephony access (PSTN and ISDN).

All telecommunication operators are hence advised to include from now on:

1. separate mention of Liechtenstein in telephone directories and databases under the country code “41” (Switzerland) for 1998. (Note: this applies only if Liechtenstein is not already listed separately) and

2. a note in telephone directories and databases (including for facsimile) that the dialling format for Liechtenstein will change, in April 1999, from +41 75 XXX XXXX to +423 XXX XXXX.

Telecommunication operators are informed that, once country code “423” comes into service in April 1999, callers making calls to +41 75 will receive a recorded message (for a period that will be specified in a further notification in Autumn 1998) giving the new dialling instructions.

Please note that this Advance Notice does not apply to mobile telephony, telex or data services for Liechtenstein, whose respective country codes will remain unchanged until further notice.

A further notification will be published in Autumn 1998 providing the engineering specifications and further information regarding the introduction of the country code “423” for telephony in Liechtenstein, including the precise date of introduction.

Liechtenstein will implement its own National Numbering Plan in 1999 and, although no changes are anticipated regarding subscriber numbers, details of the Liechtenstein National Numbering Plan will be communicated to other operators in Autumn 1998, in accordance with ITU-T Recommendation E.164.
