BALTIMORE CITY

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

MAYOR

Bernard C. "Jack" Young

DIRECTOR Rudolph S. Chow, P.E.

A Message from Mayor Bernard C. "Jack" Young and DPW Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E.

We wish you a happy 2020! The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has made remarkable progress through the first two decades of this century.

Our sewer rehabilitation work and wastewater treatment plant upgrades have meant a cleaner Harbor and a healthier Chesapeake Bay. We have headed off water main breaks by using technology we did not have at the turn of the century, and by our 15-mile-per-year main renewal program.

Large green, wheeled cans are now placed out at each house on trash collection day, and the attached lids keep the trash in and the rodents out. City-wide street cleaning is a reality, and Grow Centers pop up to help you clean and green your neighborhood.

DPW is about people; those who work for us, and those whom we serve. We tackled the issue of water affordability for our most economically vulnerable citizens by developing the new Baltimore H2O Assists program. And, we are providing employment and skills training through our YH2O Mentoring and Small Business Development programs.

Progress continues. There is so much more to come in 2020!
