When making a phenakistascope, it is key to prevent an object from moving wildly in each frame unless that is the objective of the piece. With my design, the yin and yang symbol stays in its original position which helps its overall look when it begins to rotate in each frame. Same can be said about the drawing of the dragon flying in looping formation. Another important aspect is to keep the images simple enough to see as it is spinning. When drawing the dragon, I kept its design simple to be legible but have some form of detail to show what the image is.What I had poorly executed in my Phenakistascope is the dragon’s legibility. When spinning the phenakistascope, the dragon is not completely see able. This issue was easily solved by making the head more prominent. By thickening the outline of the dragon’s head, it became more legible as it spins. This project helped me as an artist by helping me with proportions and placement of drawings. Instead of relying on tracing, I used a ruler to help place the design in each frame so it matched up with the other frames. When drawing the dragon, the proportions had to stay closely the same or it would lose its original shape. I drew a stencil of the outline of the dragon in order to maintain its body shape. This project also helped me in learning a new and different style on animation that I did not know about. ................
