Spread: two facing pages in a printed book Recto/verso: technical terms for pages in a spread. Recto = right page, verso = left page Printer's spread: the layout of pages for printing. Not the same as a spread in a printed book. Thumbnail: a rough sketch of a comic, delineating placement of figures, word balloons, and background
elements, as well as content of word balloons. Pencil: a relatively defined drawing preliminary to the final inked stage. Inks: the final stage of a comics drawing (applying ink to the pencil guidelines) Mockup: a rough layout of pages to plan a book Paste-up: the final artwork pages ready for printing Indicia: important copyight and other legal information printed in a book, usually at the beginning.

STEP 1 Draw a basic shape to represent the head.
STEP 2 Draw a nose.
STEP 3 Draw some eyes.
STEP 4 Draw a mouth.
STEP 5 Draw ears.
STEP 6 Draw hair.
COMIC BOOK STORY: Creating a comic book story
Step 1: Select a setting (time and place) for your story. Where does it take place? When does it take place?

Step 3: Think of a conflict for your characters and describe it.
Step 2: Select characters for your story. What do they look like? What are their names? Where are they from? How old are they?
Step 4: Think of how your characters will resolve this conflict and describe your resolution.
Step 5: Begin creating thumbnails of your panels to tell your story. Thumbnails are small sketches used to plan where everything will be drawn in the final version.
Dont forget a title for your comic!
Step 6: Use the templates provided to begin drawing the panels for your final copy. Draw the final panels using the following order: 1. Text and word balloons 2. Background 3. Characters
Step 7: Ink your drawings by going over the pencil lines with pen, ink, or sharpie. Remember, you are improving your pencil drawings, so draw carefully.
Step 8: Make sure your text is legible. Erase all pencil lines.
