Powered Industrial Truck Training, Certification, & Programs

Subject: Powered Industrial Trucks

Topic: Training & Certification

Question: Do you have a training program for forklifts; for certification for employee? Can you send me some information on training programs in Michigan for

forklifts?

Answer: Yes, MIOSHA does have training requirements for forklifts (or Powered Industrial Trucks). Reference to these requirements will be made down below. Please

review the Standard, Part 21. Powered Industrial Trucks (linked below). The first place to check and verify that this is the standard that needs to be referenced

is in the Scope. The Scope for Part 21 states:

Rule 2101. The purpose of this part is to provide, in or about places of employment, minimum safety rules for the care and use of powered industrial trucks and to

provide for operator safety and specifications of equipment.

Once it is determined that this is the correct standard, the rules need to be reviewed. The rules that apply for these questions are: Rule 2151. Operator

Selection; Rule 2152. Training; Rule 2153. Testing; Rule 2154 Permits.
