Course Objectives: Participants will:

? Understand current focal debates about diagnosis in the context of broad historical, theoretical, and empirical issues in mental health

? Become familiar with changes to the organization and implementation of the DSM-5, including specific changes to diagnostic criteria for DSM-5 disorders, review the empirical basis for these changes, and consider the implications of these changes for practice

? Become familiar with the direction that research suggests for future editions of the DSM.
