SECTION 233313 (Previously 15820)

1. SECTION INCLUDES

A. Round, remote cable operated balancing dampers suitable for application in HVAC systems with velocities to 1,600 fpm (8.1 m/s).

2. SUMMARY

A. Section 233100 – HVAC Ducts and Casings (Previously 15810).

B. Section 230913.13 – Actuators and Operators (Previously 15900).

3. REFERENCES

A. AMCA 500-D – Laboratory Test Methods for Testing Dampers for Ratings.

4. SUBMITTALS

A. Comply with requirements of Section 013300 - Submittal Procedures.

B. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data.

1. Include maximum system velocity and differential pressure ratings.

2. Indicate materials, construction, dimensions, and installation details.

3. Include damper pressure drop data based on tests and procedures performed in accordance with AMCA 500-D.

5. QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Dampers shall be warranted against manufacturing defects for a period of 5 years.

B. Damper pressure drop ratings shall be based on tests and procedures performed in accordance with AMCA 500-D.

6. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly indicating manufacturer, material, and location of installation.

B. Storage: Store materials in a dry area indoor and protected from damage and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

C. Handling: Handle and lift dampers by sleeve or frame only. Do not lift damper by blades, actuator, or cable system. Protect materials and finishes during handling and installation to prevent damage.

A. Model: RCS-15R remote cable operated balancing damper.

B. Ratings:

1. Temperature Rating: -40ºF to 240ºF (-40ºC to 116ºC)

2. Air Flow Rating: 1600 fpm (8.1 m/s)

3. Differential Pressure Rating: 1 in. wg. (0.25 kPa)

C. Construction:

1. Frame: 1" x 2-5⁄16" x 20 ga. (25 x 59 x 1) galvanized steel.

2. Blade: Radial, minimum 20 gauge (1 mm), galvanized steel.

3. Mounting: Vertical and/or Horizontal

4. Cable: Remote control cable shall be factory installed to the damper, with a minimum length of 36 inch (914 mm) with a 1/4" (6 mm) square end. The entire assembly shall be factory assembled and tested prior to shipment, FIELD ASSEMBLED SYSTEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

5. Finish: Mill galvanized.

EXECUTION

1. EXAMINATION

A. Examine areas to receive dampers. Notify the Engineer of conditions that would adversely affect installation or subsequent utilization of dampers. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected.

2. INSTALLATION

A. Install dampers at locations as indicated on the drawings and in accordance with manufacturer’s installation instructions.

B. Install dampers round and free from racking. DO NOT compress or stretch damper sleeve or frame into the duct or opening.

C. Handle dampers using the frame or sleeve. Do not lift or move damper using blades, actuator, or cable system.

D. Install cable assembly in concealed ceiling space with the control housing end flush and square to the finished ceiling line.

E. Properly support cable sleeve to prevent twisting or bending.

F. DO NOT cover damper operator with insulation or other material that may interfere with the proper operation of the assembly.
