I know it must be very difficult to not be able to go to football / hurling training, horse riding, taekwondo etc. and likewise not being able to meet your friends. Please enjoy the time you have at home with your family and make the most of it. Try get your work done but don’t forget you are also learning when you are baking or gardening. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and I’m looking forward to hearing what kind of Easter eggs you all got. I’m sure you have all been spending lots of time playing outside in the sun. Don’t forget to help at home – you are all excellent at tidying up at school! Stay safe and keep washing your hands. Ms. Dowling Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), I hope you are still safe and well. I want to again emphasis that I know this is a challenging time as you have to juggle your own job, mind your children at home as well as try to complete schoolwork with your child on a daily basis. Therefore, please only use this as a guide and do not feel pressure to get it all done. I encourage you to sign up for to the book companies listed below and avail of the resources they offer if you have not already done so. The books your child uses in school are available on these websites. If you wish/ can print the relevant pages from these books you may do so, however it is not a necessity. Your child can complete tasks into their copy. I will attach images of this week’s relevant pages at the end of this work bank.Starting this week, I will be asking for one piece of work that your child has completed to be sent to me via email so I can assess their work. This can simply be done by taking a picture of the completed work and attaching it to an email. I will specify a different piece of work each week. If the children want to send an additional piece of work that they are proud of I will be delighted to see that too, however the latter is at your own discretion. If you have any queries/ questions please don’t hesitate to email me at donna.dowling@scoilnaomheltin.ie Stay safe, Donna DowlingReminder:All book companies are offering free access to books online. All you have to do is sign up for free. The following companies are linked with the following books:CJ Fallon – Busy at Maths & Small World (SESE)Gill Explore – Fun at the Circus (Reader) and Skills bookEdco Learning – Bua na CainteGaeilge: If possible, I would like students to download the app “Duolingo” if you have not already done so. I will leave the box explaining how to set it up at the end of this work sheet. You will learn some new words so make sure the volume is turned up so you can hear them being pronounced. Our topic is “Sa Bhaile” (Home). Once you select this icon a login page will open where you will need to enter the details included belowLogin: trialPassword: trialOnce you have accessed Bua na Cainte, select “Sa Bhaile” from the themes and Ceacht 7, Ceacht 8, Ceacht 10 (Lessons 7,8,10) which will cover this week’s lessons. There are lovely songs and interactive games which can all be done over the week. Activities: Pg. 63 - First go through the vocabulary with your child. The new vocabulary on this page is animals and are as follows: Cearc (hen), capall (horse), madra (dog), bó (cow), cat (cat), madra (dog), luch (mouse), éan (bird), iasc (fish). The children will know a game with play at school which can used to try memorize new vocalulary – Cluiche Kim. I place all the words/ pictures on the board. The children have time to look at them and then they ‘Téigí a choladh’ (Go to sleep). I remove one word and ask the children to ‘Dúisigí’ (Wake up). I then ask the question – ‘Cad atá imithe?’ (What is missing?) and the children reply with ‘Tá ____ imithe’ (Tell you what word is missing). This game can be practiced everyday to revise any new vocabulary. A nice activity would be for you to say the word in Irish e.g. madra and for your child to point to the correct picture and say the Irish word.Another activity would be to ask your child ‘Taispeáin dom capall’ (Show me the horse) and your child has to point to the horse. Ask your child the question below and allow them to answer using the new vocabulary. This allows you child to practice using the phrase used on pg.63. Children can then write the sentences into their copies /on the page. Ceacht 7 on Bua na Cainte app will allow you to listen to this phrase being used. There are also games associated with this lesson – the kids will know where to find them on the bottom of the screen. Question: Cad atá agat? (What do you have?)Answer: Tá ____ agam. (I have ____.) Put an animal into the space. Pg. 64 – Ceacht 8 on the Bua na Cainte app will allow you to listen to the dán (poem) – Mo Mhadra (My Dog) – Seo é mo mhadra (This is my dog) Thug Daidí an madra dom (Dad gave me this dog) Bran is ainm dom ( He’s name is Bran)Get your child to say this poem after listening to it. Keep repeating it and see if they can say it without any help. If you have access to a printer – join the dots and colour the picture. Pg. 65 – Ceacht 10 on the Bua na Cainte app will allow you to listen to An Nuacht (The news). Children can then use the page as a guide and write it out themselves. Inniu an _____. (Today is ____)Inné an ______. (Yesterday was _____) Amárach an ______. (Tomorrow is ____). Tá an lá _____. (The day is ____ - weather)Tá peata agam. ( I have a pet)Is ______ é ( It is a _______ - dog/ cat/ rabbit etc)Thug _____ dom é ( _____ gave him to me) Is maith liom é ( I like him)Tarraing pictiúr (Draw a picture of you and your pet. If you do not have one you can pretend that you do)Maths:This week we will be revising topics in our Shadow Book which have already been covered in class. Tasks have been assigned in Mental Maths and online on Manga High. The following are warm up activities which may be attempted at any given time in any given week. The following link allows you to practice cursive letters with your child. You will see an explanation as how to form the letter correctly on the top right-hand side of the page. If you could first demonstrate how to form the letter correctly for your child this would be great – then allow them to practice. Drawing out the blue and red lines for your child will also be a great help. Encourage your child to use cursive writing when they are writing freely, completing exercises etc. This week we will revise letter ‘a’ and learn how to form letter ‘s’. : This week I will attach a picture of your spellings. Remember to learn a few everyday and test yourself on Friday as we do in school. My News: From this week on I am asking children to write their news as we always do in school. Today is ____.
