Job Title: Residential Direct Support Professional

Department: Residential

FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-exempt

Reports to: Residential Manager

Shift: FT 2nd (4pm - midnight) & 3rd (Midnight - 8am)

Summary

Apple Patch helps intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals lead fulfilling lives. The Residential Direct Support Professional helps maintain the household for three people, cooking meals, assisting them in or doing light housework, administering medications, and at times providing personal care assistance for fragile or physically or behaviorally challenged individuals. Creatively encouraging and supporting people to meet their own goals and to engage in their community is another fulfilling aspect of this person-centered approach at Apple Patch. Organizational Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of Apple Patch. Facilitates and supports the implementation of policies and procedures.

2. Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others by exhibiting: Individual maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

3. Exhibits effective communication skills.

4. Participates in appropriate professional development programs to attain and maintain competency.

5. Effectively manages financial and physical resources to achieve Apple Patch's objectives.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. In collaboration with the House Manager, develops and maintains a schedule of activities based upon the interest of the residents.

2. Assist clients in the development of daily living, social, recreational, and leisure skills.

3. Prepare or assist residents to prepare healthy meals following a menu.

4. Maintain cleanliness of the living unit and assists residents in their efforts to maintain the cleanliness of their individual rooms and common areas.

5. Assist with individual hygiene needs, including bathing, toileting, oral hygiene; etc. as needed.

6. Follow individual service plans for each individual client.

7. Maintain a daily log of participant progress and activities.

8. Administer medications and documents completion the Medication Administration Record.

9. Offer basic first aid as needed.

10. Regularly attend mandated trainings and staff meetings.

11. Complete other documentation as required including incident and medication error reports.

12. Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.

13. Work collaboratively with other members of The Apple Patch staff.

14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED

Previous experience working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities preferred.

Must possess a current and valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

Must have basic computer competency.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, and crouch; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to work the required hours to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
