Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) is the overall education authority and the organisation operates approximately 40 Colleges and Flexi-Learning Centres throughout Australia. It has a specific mission and a set of guiding principles informed by the gospels and the work of Edmund Rice in the 19th Century. The role of School Officer – Teacher Aide Indigenous Support is to strive to be a positive influence on students and staff within our framework of Catholic and Christian values.The School Officer – Teacher Aide Indigenous Support is employed to assist College teaching staff and the students in their care. The School Officer – Teacher Aide Indigenous Support is immediately responsible to the Program Leader – Indigenous and Multi-Cultural for the day-to-day duties and management but is ultimately responsible to the Principal.Key Accountabilities:The School Officer – Teacher Aide Indigenous Support will:Demonstrate a commitment to and an understanding of the ethos of Catholic Education and the vision of Edmund Rice Education;Be committed to building our school community;Refrain from any behaviours that may impinge negatively upon a person’s dignity, morale or work effectiveness, be respectful and tolerant and engender fairness and respect in relationships with other staff, students, parents and members of the public;Liaise with the Program Leader – Indigenous Support to ensure the responsibilities of the position are carried out efficiently;Co-operate and work with other members of staff, to ensure the smooth operation of Indigenous Support Department;Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills;Maintain privacy of confidential information obtained in the course of performing duties of the role; andSchool Officer – Teacher Aide Indigenous Support is not permitted to make statements in relation to the College or EREA to the media or other publicly available information sources.The duties of a Teacher Aide may include a mix of any of the following activities. These activities are not exhaustive, however, and other relevant activities may be performed by Teacher Aides provided that such duties are appropriate having due regard to the nature, classification level and purpose of the position. In general terms, you will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:Utilise in-class time in an effective manner as directed for the effective learning and educational development of pleting work requiring specialised knowledge.Undertaking work with limited direction as to work priorities and the detailed conduct of the task.Showing initiative in the application of established work practices and procedures.Supervising a work group or function, with the responsibility for the standard of workmanship, the completion of work assignments and/or allocation of resources.Interpretation of guideline material and documented precedents and the application of judgment may be required in the determining of solutions to municating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.Maintaining anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student’s development.Displaying confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitively to students and their families.Assisting in the supervision of education activities, under the direction of a teacher.Supervising small groups of students, undertaking specific learning activities designed by a teacher, when the teacher is not in the room but is available to be called on if needed.Displaying respect and empathy for students with high level needs.Assisting students with special needs where appropriate.Mentoring other Teacher Aides and/or volunteers.Performing reasonable duties as required by your supervisor or College management.Reporting on a regular basis to your supervisor as required.Understanding that you are not permitted to make statements in relation to the College or EREA to the media or other publicly available information sources.Duties, Skills and Abilities associated with the Position:In general terms, the School Officer – Teacher Aide Indigenous Support will have responsibility for the delivery of the following key tasks:Supporting the Program Leader - Indigenous and Multi-Cultural to conduct and monitor Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).Monitoring and tracking Indigenous student’s progress and achievements.Liaising with the Program Officer – Journey 2 Jobs.Assisting with Indigenous activities and events.Assisting teachers and students with sporting activities and with school excursions.Management and stocktaking of equipment and resources.Assisting in preparing, storing, making available and clearing away teaching equipment and materials.Listening to students’ reading.Reading aloud and storytelling.Assisting with practical demonstrations, textile and cooking classes; e.g. collation of food lists, purchasing, preparation and storage of materials.Laundering linens.Care of equipment.Assisting students to find reference materials.Administrative duties including typing teachers' notes and work programs, compiling and supervising class rolls, photocopying teaching materials, collation and duplication of exam papers, recording of examination results, compiling student results records, checking bus lists, assisting in organising off-site activities, etc.Conducting reading groups, Mathematics groups, art activities, and sports activities, including the gathering of applicable resources, in cooperation with teachers.Management of teaching/learning resources, book hire schemes, loans and retrievals.Support for teachers in providing learning materials for students at risk.Use of computers when working with students.Undertake scheduled lunch time supervision of students as required by the Deputy Principal – Administration.Additional Information:Confirmation of employment is conditional upon the preferred applicant being issued with a Positive Notice Blue Card for Child Related Employment from the Commission for Children and Young People.A non-smoking policy is effective in College buildings, offices and motor vehicles.The appointee to this position is not permitted to make public statements in relation to the College or EREA to the media or other publicly available information sources. Remuneration will be in accordance with The Single Enterprise Collective Agreement – Religious Institute Schools of Queensland 2015-2019.The appointee to this position will be required to complete a period of 6 months’ probation, in accordance with The Fair Work Act 2010.A non-smoking policy is effective in College buildings, offices and motor vehicles.All employees are accountable for complying with Workplace Health & Safety and environmental policies and identifying, assessing and controlling workplace and environmental hazards in their areas of responsibility.Selection Criteria:Not required. ................
