As you listen to our guest speaker, focus on the role accounting plays in this persons business. Specifically, be able to address the following:

1) Name of our guest speaker and a listing and brief description of at least 2 activities he/she is responsible as part of his/her professional duties, which include civic and community duties as well as daily duties.

2) Name, location, and brief description of the company our guest speaker works for or owns.

3) Explain the steps he/she had go through in order to be successful and get to the position he/she is currently at? Specifically, what challenges and failures did he/she have to overcome to finally succeed?

4) Describe how current issues and developments impact their business (importance of maintaining good credit, proper cash flow, marketing to increase sales, minimizing expenses, etc.)

5) How does the speaker use the accounting information to help the organizations and clients they work with make sound business decisions?

6) What does this person look for in potential employees? Discuss the importance of the “first impression” always being professional inside and outside the workplace.

7) Explain the need for a code of ethics in your company and the ethical responsibilities required of employees in both their professional and personal lives. Describe the effects of a failure of the code of ethics.

8) Advice for high school students who already have a small side business (lawn care business, construction, or car washing business) or are thinking about the possibility of starting one and how accounting decisions will have a direct affect on the growth of their business.
