Job Purpose

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

Community Development:

Plan and deliver creative and engaging consultation events and activities, to understand and gather information from a diverse range of people on local needs and issues.

Support residents to lead on community projects and the development and delivery of new groups, services or activities to meet needs or improve services in the community.

Liaise with all stakeholders including local schools, councillors, faith groups, other community and voluntary groups and local businesses to ensure their skills, knowledge and ability to connect and support local people is fully utilised.

Gather data and information continuously and comprehensively from multiple sources, utilising a variety of methods to accurately inform report writing, capture case studies and support recommendations for change with the wider team.

To research rural issues for use by Community Lincs in internal and external development. This will include desk based research and outreach work at events and door to door in the local community.

To support the work of other members of Community Lincs when necessary for the good of the organisation and the communities of Lincolnshire.

To attend relevant meetings as requested by the Chief Executive Officer and Operations Manager.

Marketing and Communications:

Undertake quality proactive and reactive media work, including leading on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, working with all members of the organisation to maximise usage and content.

Identify and develop opportunities for Community Lincs to raise its profile among key target audiences, in line with identified communications objectives.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the Operations Manager to maintain a database of activity, outputs and outcomes that will be used to report on activities to partners.

Work in co-operation with other team members, adhering to all policies and procedures.

Help to identify and agree a training and personal development programme.

Participate in regular supervision and appraisal meetings with the Operations Manager.

Participate in any internal / external meetings as required.

Community Development Worker Person Specification

ESSENTIAL

DESIRABLE

Knowledge

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of community development and the voluntary sector.

Knowledge/experience of community participation techniques.

Knowledge of effective communication techniques and approaches suitable for different audiences.

An understanding of the challenges facing the population of Lincolnshire.

An understanding of local and national policy which impacts on communities, particularly those who are most vulnerable or most severely affected.

Understanding of rural communities and the issues that face them.

Knowledge of the funding environment and success in bidding for funds.

Experience

Experience of setting up creative and appealing events and activities and engaging widely in the community.

Success in delivering community development projects which have been led by the community and have resulted in meaningful change.

Experience of report writing for a variety of recipients, including partners, stakeholders and funders.

Experience of managing and supporting volunteers.

Experience of partnership working.

Working with Community and Voluntary Sector management groups and committees.

Experience providing advice/signposting to services

Two years' experience of working or volunteering in the Voluntary and Community Sector.

Ability to speak confidently and be able to present your knowledge and findings in a structured and coherent way.

Ability to manage, monitor, plan and prioritise your time effectively.

IT skills, including Microsoft Office, email, databases and social media.

Confident in working `on the ground' in the community.

The ability to travel freely for work purposes.

A willingness to work outside of usual office hours when required.

Commitment and enthusiasm.

Positive approach to team working, but also able to work on own initiative.
