The Director works closely with the Vice-Chancellor and the other University Leadership Team members to ensure that the University has in place systems, policies and practices to facilitate a high performing culture.The University is driving through a period of significant change and wishes to appoint a Director who has successful experience of substantial change delivery in a people-based organisation with complex internal structures and industrial relations. Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the postThe Director will develop a strategy and road map for implementing improvements and supporting a high-performing workforce. The Director is the adviser to the Vice-Chancellor and Chair of Council on HR matters.The Director has operational and performance management responsibility for HR and OD; Occupational Health; Health and Safety; and HR Systems and Compliance. The Director manages a team of professional managers who ensure coordinated delivery of advisory and operational services underpinning the University’s People Plan. The Director has responsibility for Equality and Diversity, Industrial Relations, employment policies and systems, and workforce data.Key Responsibilities:Provide strategic professional HR leadership to the University.Advise the Vice-Chancellor and Chair of Council on HR matters.Create a strategy which has buy-in from the University Leadership Team and which facilitates maintenance of a high-performing culture.Lead the Directorate to provide effective HR services and processes which meet the needs of and are valued by staff. Ensure that the University complies with the relevant legislation with regard to all its human resource matters, processes and procedures, and contribute towards the development of new policies and changes to existing policies.Create a strong employee engagement framework.Manage the framework for relations with trade unions.Develop performance measures for the Directorate to support service improvement.Represent the University externally, raising the profile and reputation of the University and influencing regional and national agendas on behalf of the University.Be a member of the University Leadership Team and contribute to other parts of the general management of the University.To take a leadership role on other institutional issues and projects assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.To undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Chief Operating Officer.GENERIC JOB DESCRIPTIONThe job duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of the role. May be required to undertake specific health and safety roles on request e.g. Display screen equipment assessor, departmental safety officer, fire wardenFulfil the managers’ responsibilities as described in the University’s health and safety policies. These duties include responsibility for ensuring that suitable and sufficient risk assessments are in place for activities within your area of control and for ensuring appropriate health and safety training is in place.Support staff to demonstrate their commitment to equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory behaviour.
