ANDREW M. NOVAKOVIC PhD

Andrew Novakovic is the E.V. Baker Professor of Agricultural Economics in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University, where he has been since 1978. He also serves as the Dyson School Director for Engagement.

Dr. Novakovic's expertise is in the area of the economics of agricultural markets and agricultural and food policy. His primary focus is applied research in the field of dairy market economics and educational programs for dairy sector leaders, analysts, and policymakers. He currently teaches a course in Dairy Markets and Policy and has previously taught Agricultural and Food Policy. He is also an undergraduate adviser at the Dyson School, which is regarded as one of the top ranked undergraduate schools of business in the US. Previously, he developed and taught a course in personal development, career planning, and interpersonal relations for Dyson undergraduates. His graduate advising includes working with students in the field of food science. Dr. Novakovic has written over 400 publications and is often asked to speak at various industry conferences and extension activities. He has received research and extension awards from the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, extension and advising awards from Cornell University, and research awards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In 2010, Dr. Novakovic was appointed Chair of the ad hoc Dairy Industry Advisory Committee to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Beginning in June 2011, he served one year in residence as a Senior Economist in the USDA Office of the Chief Economist, whose mission it is to advise the Secretary on agricultural, food, environmental, and trade policy. His part-time appointment with USDA continued through 2015.

From 1993 to 2003, Dr. Novakovic served as the chair of the Department of Applied Economics and Management, at which time he laid the foundation for its transformation to the Dyson School. At the undergraduate level, the Dyson School is the AACSB-accredited business degree program at Cornell. At the graduate level and in its research and extension activities it emphasizes agricultural, environmental, resource, development and behavioral economics.

A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Novakovic received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and did his graduate work at Purdue University. How to pronounce my name:
