I determined the content of each film and Instructional Resources shot and edited them.

• 20th National Conference on Men and Masculinity, University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, June 1995. Planning committee.

• 13th National Conference on Men and Masculinity, Chatham College, July 1989. Co-chair of planning committee for this national conference, the annual meeting of the National Organization of Men Against Sexism. I was also in charge of organizing the Men’s Studies Association meeting, which was held in conjunction with this conference. This meeting included symposia and academic papers on men’s roles.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

• Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library: Co-Founder and President, 1974-1977. A community-based toy library designed to provide toys, a place to play, and educational programs for pre-school children and their parents. This program is still in operation. I wrote the successful grant application to a local foundation to fund the start-up of this program.

• Pittsburgh Men’s Collective: Board of Directors, 1987-1989. A pro-feminist men’s organization affiliated with the National Organization of Men Against Sexism.

• A Weekend for Men: Organizer, 1988. A two-day workshop sponsored by the Pittsburgh Men’s Collective, dealing with how male roles affect men’s lives.

• Insight Seminar for Social Activists. Organizer of a series of 5-day “personal effectiveness” seminars for social activists (people working in social service organizations, people working to achieve social change, and teachers). Seminars were given in Pittsburgh for ten years, beginning in 1990.

• Insight Seminar for People with Life-Threatening Diseases. Organizer. A seminar similar to the one above, but targeted for people with life-threatening diseases (AIDS, cancer, MS, etc.), their caregivers, and loved ones. Seminar given in Pittsburgh, September, 1993. Also given in April, 1997, co-sponsored by the Pittsburgh Multiple Sclerosis Society.

• Workshops and presentations for community organizations:

• Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh: Moderated conference on the artist James Turrell, 2003.

• First Presbyterian Church: “Homosexuality: Genetics or Environment?” (Presentation as part of a series on “Understanding Homosexuality.”)
