To promote the health, nutrition and education of the children and to attend to their safety and welfare. Must meet requirements per Head Start Performance Standards and any local, state and/or agency policies and procedures.Maintain Professional and Ethical StandardsRespect and maintain rights and privacy of all staff, parents, community partners, and children.Attend mandated trainings, meetings, and staff development opportunities. Work as a team member with all staff, community partners, volunteers, and maintain a positive work municate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist in setting up environment (indoor/outdoor) for the activities of the day.Use developmentally appropriate practices to facilitate activities with groups and individuals.Observe and record behaviors of children to assist the teacher in the identification of each child's strengths and areas to grow.Participate in monthly staffing of children with all staff as appropriate.Work with and encourage parent and community volunteers.Integrate all Early Childhood Outcome Framework components into classroom time.Utilize and provide input into lesson plans which reflect mandated elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of Head Start children.Follow a consistent schedule which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, three meals, and effective transitions between activities.Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers.Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parent involvement in the classroom.Work with Mental Health and Disability staff and all other professional staff/community partners in the classroom to develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom and meets the needs as specified on the IEP’s.Assist the teacher in maintaining accurate written records, including: assessments, IEP documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal observations, and other required forms.Attend meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities.Sanitize classroom equipment and laundry.Continuing education as required by job classification, such as webinars, workshops, and other training sessions. Other duties as assigned.QualificationsMust have a Child Development Associates (CDA), OR enrolled in a program that will lead to an Associate or bachelor degree, OR enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire. One to two years’ experience (paid or volunteer) working with children desired. Must be able to demonstrate sound and mature judgment. Frequent significant decision and problem solving abilities. Ability to read and to write legibly; relate to and communicate with a variety of cultures and ethnic groups Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be computer literate and have intermediate computer skills to be able to use the internet and e-mail. Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children. Must obtain 40 hours Florida Department of Children and Families requirement within one year of employment. ................
