Volunteer Preschool Classroom Aid

 

 

TITLE:           Volunteer Preschool Classroom Aide, Children’s English School

 

PROGRAM: The Children’s English School at MLC’s Northeast Learning Center provides preschool education for 3-5 year old English Language Learners while their parent or adult caretaker attends Adult ELL classes on site. Our two-hour day, focused on early literacy, consists of independent choice time, group songs and games, stories and hands-on learning activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

♣         Ability to speak, read and write English

♣         Special interest or experience in working with children

♣         Able to relate to children from diverse backgrounds

♣         Ability to manage children’s behavior in a positive and mature manner

♣         Coursework in education or child development a plus

♣         Spanish speaking a plus

 

TRAINING:  

♣         Attend ABCs of Reading Literacy Training at the MN Literacy Council (3 hrs)      

♣         Attend initial orientation meeting with classroom teacher. (1 hr)

♣         Observe a 2-hour class. 

 

LOCATION: MLC Northeast Learning Center in NE Minneapolis

2511 Taylor Ave. NE, Minneapolis, MN.

OR

MLC Arlington Hills Learning Center on the east side of St. Paul

1112 Greenbrier, St. Paul, MN

 

COMMITMENT:    

♣         9:45am-12:15pm, one day per week. (Possibility of 2 days/week if desired)

♣         Minimum 3 month commitment, preferably a 6 month commitment

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:         

♣         Attend at all scheduled times.

♣         Work cooperatively with classroom teacher and other volunteers.

♣         Work with small groups of students or individual students on independent tasks and skills.

♣         Inform teacher of problems.

♣         Help to track student progress and achievements.
