School Grading Policy: A=100-90, B=89-80, C=79-70, D=69-60, F=59-0

Your grade will be assessed in the following manner:

Diagnostic Assignments: 0% of overall grade

Diagnostic assignments allow the teacher to establish a baseline for student performance. These assignments are essentially risk-free, allowing the student demonstrate their current level of understanding without the fear of negative academic consequences.

Formative Assignments: 40% of overall grade

Formative assignments are those which help the students work on proficiency in the subject area. Formative assignments are analogous to a “check-up” at the doctors. These include in-class assignments, homework, formative labs, projects, and formative quizzes.

Summative Assignments: 60% of overall grade

Summative assignments are those which determine the student’s mastery of the content. These are analogous to an “autopsy” of the student’s understanding of the topic. Summative assignments will include summative labs, projects, and summative tests.

Re-take Policy: The district’s policy on retakes is that students with grades of 70% or lower may retake a summative assessment one time and only after intervention has occurred. The assigned value of a retake is the grade earned unless the teacher has formative documentation that supports evidence of learning as a result of intervention.

Test-Correction: An alternative to retakes is test corrections. Test corrections must be completed within five days of the original test date. Test correction guidelines are posted on Edmodo and schshendricks.

Grade Communication Policy: It is the students’ and parents’/guardians’ responsibility to check grades. You will shortly be receiving information on how to log on to Pinnacle, the district’s online grading software. If you should lose your log in information, it is YOUR responsibility to make accommodations to retrieve that information. Individual student grade print outs can be provided upon parent request.

Edmodo: Our class will use Edmodo, which is analogous to Facebook but for educational purposes. This will allow you to access most, if not all, class material anywhere you have internet access. Edmodo accounts will be used to access class material, As a class, we will sign up for Edmodo during the 1st week of school. The website is

Since Edmodo is a district-sanctioned website, all posts are monitored and subject to the same rules and regulations that govern the classroom. If Edmodo is not used responsibly and appropriately, you will be subject to disciplinary action and/or removal from Edmodo.

District Make-Up Work Policy: It’s important that you attend class every day. Students are required to make up work that was missed due to an absence. For each day a student is absent, he/she has the equal number of days plus one to make up missed work. Please check Edmodo for missed assignments.

These add up as the year progresses, and unfortunately, we are always in need of supplies. If you are able to donate some of the items listed below or a monetary gift it would be greatly appreciated!
