Letter P is for Pig!

Step by step instructions:

Print out the letter P page.

Color the letter P and the two triangles. Save the details for the end (eyelashes/eyebrows, mouth, and tail).

Cut out the letter P and the two triangles.

Put glue on the back of the letter P and glue it in the middle of a piece of colored paper.

Glue on the triangle ears.

Use a marker to add a mouth, eyelashes/eyebrows, and a tail.

Write your name at the bottom!

Here are some questions you can ask your preschooler:

What color is the pig?

What sound does the P make?

What shape are the pig’s ears?

What shape is the pig’s nose?

What sound does a pig make?

Where does a pig live?

How many ovals do you see?

Can you think of some other words that begin with the P sound?

Curly Pig Tails Fine Motor Activity

Come have some silly fun down on the farm with these colorful pig bottoms!

Tell you preschooler that somehow the pigs were rolling around in the mud and their tails fell off! While it sounds completely unbelievable, it will be very motivating for your preschooler to put those tails back on the colorful piggy bottoms!

Start by covering the bottom of a tray with brown colored rice, or you could also use brown paper, or anything you can think of to represent mud. You could also use plain rice. Playing in rice is a great sensory experience!

Next, use colored paper to make the pig bottoms (circle shape on the top, and 2 square legs at the bottom).

Use pipe cleaners (in coordinating colors) to make the pig tails. Cut each pipe cleaner into 4 equal lengths. Twist the pieces individually around your finger (or a pencil) to make it curly.

Spread the pig tails around the work area and have your preschooler use kid friendly tweezers to pick up the pig tails and match them to the correct pig bottom. If you don’t have the kid tweezers, that is okay, your preschooler can just use their fingers to pick up the tails.

You could turn this activity into a pig tail scavenger hunt! Just hide the pig tails around the house (in easy to find places) and have your preschooler search for them! Those little piggies will be so grateful to have their tails back!

This activity will strengthen your preschooler’s fine motor, sorting, color recognition, language, and matching skills!

Help out these little piggies! They are missing their tails!

● Start by printing out the “Color Cut Draw Piggies” PDF page from the printable section of our Website.

● Use a marker to trace each letter P. Choose 4 different colors. You may want to choose the colors your preschooler needs to learn. You could also print out two pages to make more than 4 cards

● Color each pig. Use the same colors you chose for the tracing

● Trace the dotted lines with a marker just inside the dotted line (a job for mom or dad)

● Use a marker or pencil to add the pig tails, and then cut out the squares

Now what to do with the cards? Play some games!!! Here are some ideas:

➤Mix up the cards and have your preschooler match each color pig to the correct color P.

➤Turn over the cards and play a matching game.

➤Line up the piggies, and have your preschooler say the colors of each pig. Then have your preschooler hide their eyes and help them count slowly to 10 while you steal one of the pigs. Have your preschooler open their eyes and see if they can tell you which color is gone. Now it's your turn to hide your eyes and count. Let your preschooler choose which color to hide!

Check out this fun Planting Activity!

You can recycle those old egg cartons, and plant some seeds! This activity is so fun! Preschoolers love to see things grow. It's like magic!

Directions

1. An adult should cut the egg carton in half.

2. Help your preschooler add potting soil to individual egg cups in the carton.

3. Have your preschooler use their finger to create a hole in the center of each cup. Place one seed in each hole. Cover with soil.

4. Spray soil with water. Place on the tray and keep them in a warm light-filled location indoors until they begin to sprout.

5. Remind your preschooler to water the seeds everyday. The soil should stay very moist.

6. Once the seeds have sprouted into small seedlings, transfer them to a permanent location.

7. Make sure the egg carton is very wet and saturated before moving the seedling outdoors. Tear off one of the egg carton cups.

8. Dig a hole in the container you are transferring to, using your trowel.

9. Place the egg carton cup directly in the soil. It will decompose.

10. Remind your preschooler to water the seedlings every day to help them grow!
