1 cup butter and 2/3 cup sugar. Beat in: 1 egg. Add: 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 2 1/2 cups sifted flour. Blend well. Chill dough for 2 to 3 hours before rolling. Roll out with a floured rolling pin about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut shapes. Place on greased or parchment covered cookie sheet. ................
