How to use the New MLA 8th Edition for CitationsBooksIn previous versions of MLA there was a different format for each type of source. Examples: books, encyclopedias, articles, and websites. The new addition has one general format for all sources. This makes it easier to understand and use.A new feature uses containers. A container is an object that holds the source we are citing.Example: A recipe for fried chicken in a cookbook. The title of the cookbook is Quick and Easy Dinner Ideas. The recipe is titled” Fast Fried Chicken”. The cookbook is a container that holds the source or recipe for fried chicken we want to cite. What information do I need to gather for a book?AuthorTitle of SourceTitle of ContainerOther Contributors (editors, illustrators, etc.) Version (Edition)Number (Volume number)PublisherPublication DateLocation (only needed if the book was published prior to 1900)Page numbersFormat of the citation:Author’s Last name, First name. “Title of chapter or section.” Title of the work.
