2016-17 SNA Presentations for LeadershipGuidance for National Leaders Below are instructions and descriptions of all SNA-designed presentations available to SNA national leaders for use during annual state conference visits. All presentations and handouts listed below may be downloaded at LeadersPresent. What to Present: As per the SNA policy, you should plan to conduct the following during the state visit: SNA Update/ Personal Leadership Journey Story at General Session (30 mins)Installation of Officers (if applicable) One Break-Out Session of the state association’s choice, from the list below (60 mins)Also available to you in preparing for state visits, you will find:Short Updates about SNA Programs (which can be used to briefly discuss specific topics)Board Governance and SN Trends PresentationsVideos for use in enhancing your break-out sessionA Library of Icebreakers is also available to you to kick-off your break-out sessions with a little fun and get to know your audience. Using and Conducting the Presentations:Presentations have bulleted talking points in the notes section on each slide. National leaders should read the notes thoroughly before the presentation to become familiar with the content and the presentation. Notes are not to be read word-for-word during the session. They are a guide for national leaders. Videos are available for your use to enhance a presentation. The use of videos is completely optional at the discretion of the national leader and the availability of the adequate technology through the state association. If you plan to use a video, please test it out in the conference room/laptop you will be using prior to your presentation. If handouts are available for a break-out session, coordinate with the state association to ensure handouts will be printed and given during the session. SNA will not print and ship the handouts. It is recommended that 10 to 15 minutes be allotted for Q&A at the end of all break-out sessions. SNA Update & Leadership Journey When visiting a state conference, it is highly recommended that you present an SNA Update and share your own personal leadership journey story at a General Session. The presentations should take a total of about 30 minutes. Installation CeremoniesWhen visiting a state conference, it is recommended that you conduct the state board installation for the upcoming year (if applicable). SNA has multiple versions of scripts for the Installation Ceremony for you to customize and use. Please feel free to choose from the list below, create your own installation with its own theme, or use an installation ceremony from another source. Please note that you may need to edit the script to ensure it accurately covers all of the positions on the state association board. SNA staff will assist you in collecting the names of board members to install from the state association. Break-Out SessionsWhen visiting a state conference, it is recommended that you conduct one break-out session of the state association’s choice, which will most likely take 60 minutes. While planning the visit, SNA staff will help promote which sessions are available for the state to request. A-PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT How SNA’s Professional Development Programs Can Help You Meet Professional Standards Overview of resources available from SNA to help navigate Professional Standards including Professional Standards learning plans. Review benefits and requirements of SNA’s Certificate and Credentialing programs and how they are aligned with Professional Standards.About 45 minutes Ideas to enhance the session: Use the FAQs as a preparation tool for the presentation and be sure to have a copy handy for yourself to answer questions from the audienceHand out the Professional Standards flyer and the Summary of Requirements to participantsGet your SNA Certificate in School Nutrition in 3 Easy StepsOverview of requirements for SNA Certificate in School Nutrition and how the program is aligned with Professional Standards. About 30 minutes Ideas to enhance the session: Hand out the SNA Certificate Program Guide and the SNA Certificate Program Application Ask a couple members from the state to share their experiences with and the value of the SNA Certificate Program. Consider asking a school nutrition director to share the value of the Certificate Program for their staff and an employee or kitchen manager to share the value personally.Take Your First Step towards Achieving the SNS CredentialOverview of the importance, eligibility requirements and content areas of the SNS Exam, as well as an explanation of exam preparation tools, resources, and tips. Focuses on member benefits and how members can take advantage of themAbout 30 minutesIdeas to enhance the session: Hand out membership brochures and flyers about membership programs Find an enthusiastic state board member to help you present the session and discuss membership benefits at the state and local levels Show the School District-Owned Membership video before presenting that portion of the presentation Tools and Tips to Revitalize Your Local ChapterDiscuss tried-and-true techniques to recruit and retain members and nurture leaders at the local level. This includes an overview of the chapter resources available from SNA. This presentation was created by Barnes & Thornburg LLP and should be used as a full presentation. About 30 minutesGuidance for a Successful YearProvide guidance for a successful year as an association leader. This can also be applied to general leadership. This presentation works best using examples or situations that are relatable for the audience. About 15 minutes Knowledge-Based Decision MakingEncourage people to understand the importance of knowledge-based decision making and how to make knowledge-based decisions. This would work best as a facilitated discussion. The session could last for 30 to 45 minutes but would require the presenter to facilitate brainstorming and audience participation.
